It also seems that AS is keeping part of the "fuel surcharges" for themselves. For example, an one-way award BOS-LHR on 5/1/2020 (or any other date) is priced by AS at 60,000 miles + $687 whereas AA charges 57,500 miles + $279.

The only carriers I see offered from BOS are either BA or EI: BA has ridiculously high fuel surcharges while EI requires an outrageously high number of miles.
Sorry, but I won't be booking BA either and crediting them to AS.
I am the same and feel the same; mileage plan miles are close to worthless. I have the AS credit card and my recent trips also credited to AS. The spending is going on Ultimate Freedom and if I fly AS, I think I'll just credit direct to BA, even if it is reduced rate.

Why? The two are completely independent decisions.

The mix of traveler profiles in the relationship today - and the relevant economics thereof - is not one I think you have any firsthand insight into, but welcome you to prove me wrong..
Who is they? If you’re booking high margin business on BA I imagine BA would rather have you credit to their program. Oh look, you’ll now have better availability on Avios that you don’t get on AS.

They is both AS and BA. Perhaps BA would prefer I book with and credit to them, but that's not going to happen so it's not relevant here.

I suspect this is rather a corner case but OK. Quite sincerely (since it would definitely be in my interest as an AS MP member) good luck telling airlines they need to care about people who won’t credit their loyalty program when deciding how rewarding to make their loyalty program to their own members. This generally doesn’t happen.

Perhaps - I don't know what the real money flows and analysis thereof look like at the end of the day. What I know is for the last three years BA got transatlantic C and F business from me several times p.a., and AS got a good amount of my domestic business which is also full fare -- neither will be getting it if I can't use AS miles even episodically for BA C across the pond.

I received the following reply from Alaska Airlines regarding my inquiry as to the lack of award space in F and J on B.A.:

Thank you for contacting Alaska Airlines Customer Care.

There has not been any partnership changes with British Airways. I would recommend giving our Reservations Department a call and a Representative can assist with your questions about the award travel on British Airways. Please contact Reservations directly at 1-800-252-7522, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Not much useful information here.

I called yesterday and was told that BA was withholding seats or that I can look 330 days ahead of time to redeem miles.. I can go to AA and find BA saver at 330, so clearly AS is losing out on any premium seats, even WT +.

I doubt things are going to change soon. AS should start limiting AS seats for folks who are redeeming Avios to go to Hawaii etc.just to be churlish.

I haven't been over here much (okay, okay! Enough with the celebration!!) but I couldn't help but notice this thread filled with five pages of mostly speculation. If I may add one thing - I peruse the BA availability fairly often and when I do, I'm looking for one thing - and one thing ONLY. That one thing is First Class availability. Sorry, no interest in Business Class. Up until about a month and a half ago, First Class was a pretty easy find on the routes I was interested in - JNB to LHR and LHR to most any North American gateway. These days - it's a needle in a haystack. It's looking like if I want BA First, I may need to call SFO777 and pay the man his fee for finding me a seat.

In the meantime, I can only pray that it's some kind of computer glitch that'll soon be rectified.

FWIW, I also used to see a lot of First Class availability on JAL. Not so anymore.

same bucket and frustration here. BA F fares on this route could be found at less than $5k USD with a Canadian outbound. Suspect BA decided to monetize for cheap what was previously available as an award.

In my quick search, availability seems to match ExpertFlyer availability now. This is very good news!
