Hi All - just cancelled two (2) F class + one (1) J class JFK-NRT for December 21, 2017 on JAL 003.

Not sure if they become available immediately, but thought it would be in everyone's best interest to let y'all know.

Made an award booking BOS-NRT in J and got the JAL confirmation code. On the itinerary page it also shows an eTicket number. Am I all set or do I still need to do this "phone confirmation" thing?

Nope you are good to go. It would have thrown an error if the issue described above happened. I've booked several JAL awards no problems.

Has anyone successfully used miles to book a JAL Transpacific to the West Coast that features Sky Suites in J?

I'm looking at using AS miles on JAL to come back from Tokyo into SEA next February or March, and thus far every Partner Business itinerary that does NOT show up as Mixed Cabin features a outbound from Tokyo that is either 66 to SAN or 18 to YVR. The JAL site shows neither of those are equipped with Sky Suite seats in J.

NRT-LAX flight 62 does have Sky Suites, but throws up the dreaded "Mixed Cabin" on every date I've looked at thus far. If I'm spending 65K miles it isn't going to be to fly across the Pacific in coach.

I'll keep looking, but wanted to check here to see if this was a wild goose chase. Thanks.

[Did a thread search and didn't see anything on this topic - did see some discussion of other Sky Suite routes - but if I missed a post on this topic, apologies.]

JL002 SFO-HND also has SS7. I'd search for the direct leg TYO-LAX/SFO first, then for additional legs from AAA-TYO and LAX/SFO-SEA before putting the whole thing together.

Availability can be somewhat limited from what I read in the JAL forum, best either at ~T-330 or close in to the travel date with sporadic releases in between. Of course, that's availability to JMB and partner availability can be different.

ETA: Found availability on JL002 including F on various dates. Also can fly TYO-KIX-LAX with JL060 KIX-LAX in SS8 (787 Sky Suite).

Thank you! I'll broaden out my search. We're wanting to start the return in HKG so I'll play around with different stopover airports in Japan.

Award seats not showing on AS but on BA

Trying to use my AS mileage plan miles to book an award ticket on JAL for 4 passengers from SFO-HND (5 day layover)-ICN.

35k miles pp, x 4.

I'm looking to book for June 2018 which I know is not yet available for booking.

I was playing around by looking as far out as I can on AS website and chose 4/28/17 as a random date to search. There are no awards available on JAL

Even when I did 1 passenger and only SFO-HND, there are no awards available on JAL

When I go to BA.com , it says there are 4 available. Any reason why I can see the seats fine on BA.com but not on AS website?

I want to jump on the availability for June 2018 when 330 days approaches, but want to avoid calling in because I'd have to pay a call in booking fee (x4) if I can't book it online. (Also I don't know if the partner desk can see more than what i can see on the website--when I spoke to them in the past, they told me they can only see what I can see).

One other option would be to book a random date (as long as it's 60 days in advance), ticket it, then call in to change it to the date I want (assuming it's available), since I know calling in to CHANGE (once you've booked online), does not incur an agent call in fee.

But any advice on searching for availability? Thanks.

JL awards are bookable on alaskaair.com and AS' agents can see what we see. Were you looking for space over 330 days out?

Nope--check yourself for SFO-HND on 4/28/18.

NO availability even for 1 passenger on JAL when searching through the AS website

However, on BA website, it says 4 seats available.

This is not the only date, but there are multiple dates showing no availability. (although there are that do show availability like 4/26 or 4/30).

Strange thing, when I do the calendar search, it looks like it's available, but when I click on the date, it says no availabilty.

Why the discrepancy?

And want to clarify, I'm looking just for economy seats.

Not sure because I haven't been following JAL availability at the outer edge but there's availability for 4/27. Which is 325 days out and seems to be too even to be random. Check again tomorrow?

It's not unusual on other airlines to see more seats available to in-alliance partners than on AS so not too surprising if it's the same with JAL, although the absolute lack of availability sounds more like another reason.

I've been monitoring the AS website for 330 days out for the last three weeks. Some thing changed in the past 5 days (I was on vacation and didn't check). Availability, or what is showing on the website, has run quite dry for premium cabins.

Where I could easily search and find 2 seats for F at 330 and 329 days out out of LAX and SFO, I now can't see anything except 4/25. Hoping this is an error. None of the J or F seats I'm seeing on BA is reflecting on the AS website.

If the website is not showing anything, would an agent be able to help me seeing as there is availability on BA? Some sort of hard sell?

Most of the close to the window bookings had problems going through so i wouldn't be surprised if they are being suppressed that far out.

guys stop booking 330 days out. That's unfair to people that can't book that much in advance

(jal members) stop using the wait list because it's unfair to Alaska members who can't use wait list :/

dont use the stopover perk because jal/ba users can't use it

good news is you get your points back if you cancel more than 60 days out so grab and refund if your plans change. I really doubt people being able to finalize plans this far out have that much impact on award availability, there just isn't a bunch to begin with. Also IRC JAL releases more space close in.
