Flight 448: SEA-LAX

Date the flight was taken: July 11th, 2015

Flight Number and Route flown: Flight 448, SEA-LAX

Time of Departure: 5:40 PM

Length of flight: 2hrs 10 mins

Class of service: F (duh?)

Pre-Departure Beverage service: micro Dasani bottles served from a tray

Meal served:
Pasta Fettuccine with red sauce, with some kind of awful veggies mixed in.

A brief description of the meal:
I'm kind of an optimist, as I consider myself grateful when I actually receive a meal on a domestic flight, nonetheless one under 3 hours. First, the food. Basic pasta Fettuccine, cooked fairly al dente, with a palatable red sauce. On one part of the plate there was this unpleasant veggie mix with like spinach and onion, and canned peas mixed throughout. Without the peas the veggie sauce would have been delicious. But that awful rancid pea taste kinda ruined it. But it was avoidable and I was able to enjoy the pasta despite it. Salad was great as always, with the AS signature balsamic dressing that doesn't go too heavy on the vinegar. A customary roll with Land O'Lakes butter, and a packaged oatmeal raisin cookie were served as well.

Important notes:
-This was on a 737-400 (I know a/c can affect the meal sometimes)
-Service was excellent, though informal at times. Idk if it was just the nature of the 2 hour service. Upon boarding, PDB bottled water was served. After door close, the FA went to each seat, greeting each passenger by last name (YES!) announcing the dinner and asking each passenger if they were interested in dining.

-I'm not kidding, this SAN based F flight attendant may have been the best I'd ever seen. With the exception of during meal service (where she was serving meals), she was refilling drinks the entire flight. I managed 3 Vodka soda's with the potential for a 4th if I hadn't cut myself off. I saw wine being refilled, coffee being poured, I was honestly delighted with the service, exactly as domestic F should be.

PDX/LAX July 11, 6:40 a.m.

PDB passed glasses of OJ, then breakfast was either a continental plate (which I did not see) because we both got the corned beef hash. Not really "corned beef" (didn't seem salty at all), more like a prime rib hash? Lots of peppers and onions, wedge potatoes, scrambled eggs, along with a fruit plate and a heated cheese Danish.

Lunch return LAX/PDX July 12 10:55 am, a much smaller lunch than the substantial breakfast the day before:

Southwestern Salad with chicken and cilantro dressing. Oatmeal cookie. That's it.

I have no idea what Kabocha or Bulgogi sauce is. I said "either" and ended up with the Mahi Mahi which was ok. Sorry, I didn't take a pic of the main course this time.

Lunch/Dinner. No options. A pulled pork sandwich and salad.

Lunch. No Options. Cuban sandwich and salad.

Lunch on Alaska Airlines - Seattle-Milwaukee

In both of these I really wish they used an actual piece of bread rather than sandwich rounds.

PDB: Water bottles after most of boarding completed
Meal: The Chipotle Chicken Sandwich with cole slaw.
The sandwich tasted good but was somewhat disappointing considering it is also served on shorter routes.

Man, some of you really like to complain. Both of my flights this week had the upgraded menus. The portions look bigger and the lettuce in the salads hasn't been black and slimy like it used to be.

7/13 PHX-SEA 11a departure: "southwest chicken salad" that was posted up thread a little bit. I shoulda gone for the cheese plate in the back.

7/16 SEA-SNA 730p departure: linguine with some sort of red sauce (I think), a side salad, bread and cookie. I hit Beechers when I got off my PDX shuttle flight, so I passed on the food. It looked good, however.

Just a footnote, this was the strangest paced service I've seen in a long time. Dinner was served 20-30 mins before descent. FA did all the drinks then went to collect trash in Y (with the cart), then returned to serve dinner with the same blue gloves she had on when collecting the trash.

Not so good entrees - couscous inedible, short ribs too fatty. Plus, lead FA decided to get 'creative' - poor guy thought warming up a flourless chocolate cake was a good idea. The result? A decent-tasting pile of goo.

Date the flight was taken | this week
Flight Number and Route flown | LAX-PDX
Time of Departure | 6am
Length of flight | 2.00 hours
Class of service | first
Pre-Departure Beverage service | no (ever?), water bottle already at seat.
Meal served | breakfast
A brief description of the meal | eggs/weird cubed (crumbled?) breakfast meat/peppers & onions/potatoes/ripe fruit/apple strudel

-------------------------------------------------------

Date the flight was taken | this week
Flight Number and Route flown | PDX-LAX
Time of Departure | 10pm, 3.5 hours late
Length of flight | 2.25 hours
Class of service | first
Pre-Departure Beverage service | not at first, but after a while due to delay. Water bottle already at seat.
Meal served | dinner
A brief description of the meal | salad/al dente fettuccine w a strange vegetable assortment/mid-grade roll (no butter)/packaged cookie

Added hot sauce to breakfast and it helped. The best part about dinner was the salad and cookie.

The breakfast changed from May.

I'd heard so much about the meals on AS, but honestly over the past half dozen or so meal flights they have mostly been average. A number of them have been breakfast flights.

7/20/15, Flight 89, SEA-ANC, 10:23 Departure, 3 Hours and 1,444 miles, F Class.

Two warm cookies.

Should I have taken a picture?

FA gave me a complimentary fruit and cheese platter, so that was cool.

Date of flight: 7/17/15
Flight and Route: PDX-LAX
Time of Departure: 6:30pm
Length of flight: 2 hours
Class of service: First
Pre-Departure Beverage: Small water bottle
Meal served: Dinner - Pasta primavera with veggies (not great tasting); separate dish of salad (really fresh and great vinaigrette); warm bread + butter; cookie

Attendant was nice and friendly and addressed everyone with their last names. A few people got snack boxes from Y instead of the dinner option. Warm towels were also served towards the end of the flight.

Date of flight: 7/21/15
Flight and Route: LAX-PDX
Time of Departure: 9:15pm (delay to about 10pm)
Length of flight: 2 hours
Class of service: First
Pre-Departure Beverage: Small water bottle
Meal served: two warm cookies (surprisingly both cookies had either pecans or macadamia nuts, so the person next to me who was allergic to nuts could not have either kind)

This particular attendant was just as friendly, but did not address anyone by their names at all, although he did thank the person next to me for being MVP Gold (again, without using her name).
