I am able to document with proof using screenshots of the Upgrade Request List from the Alaska Apps at various times between T-24 and T-0 that the Upgrade System at Alaska is flawed and systematically denies First Class Upgrade to single passenger with an infant-on-lap even when upgrade space is available and while being first on the upgrade request list with available seats in FC outside of Row 1.
I am always number 1 on the Upgrade List. I have a flat 0% upgrade ratio with an infant-on-lap on 5 flights, where my partner of lower elite status is upgraded despite being further down the Upgrade Request List and on a different reservation. Otherwise, my upgrade ratio when travelling as two adults on the same reservation with or without an infant-on-lap is hovering in the 91.3% on 46 flights this year with Alaska. I think this is ethically wrong. Alaska has been notified. |

For domestic travel, why don’t you add the infant after the upgrade is effective? Not excusing AS upgrading brokenness, but it seems like an easy workaround.

The one time I really wanted the Professor to come through and upgrade 2 folks to 2 seats at T24, it delivers. Praise be the drunk Professor.

Has anyone run into this. I was number 1 on the upgrade list at 24 hours so I went ahead and just picked an exit row. I checked again at about 1.5 hours before and saw only 1 person had still not checked in and I was still number 1. Then I checked at about 30 minutes until departure and that one guest was offloaded. I was dropped from the upgrade list and now was showing under the awaiting seats list where savers and nonrevs usually are. The next person was upgraded instead. Not sure what would have caused it, I didn’t use the app or do anything to my ticket the past 24 hours since check in. Was just monitoring through the status website since the app crashes so much for me. I asked the counter what happened and they said it’s Alaska IT issues take it up with customer service but they need to get this flight out.

That's exactly was thinking...easy fix.
Plus I have so many flights, international itineraries included (probably 20 return trip before the end of year) that I take a habit to do that as soon as I book a ticket. Otherwise, this is a recipe for disaster with international infant purchased last minute at the counter because I forgot to add it earlier... Little one has already flown 80 times in her first year alone... |
Probably asked and answered somewhere but as to the current state of affairs, will an upward status change post-reservation pre-upgrade-processor processing be recognized w/o the MP number being removed and then re-input and then the UG request reinstated? Intra-CA flight, no big deal if the UG processes or not. But I'd rather have a drink or two (and maybe a PDB on top of that) after 2 days of stressful holiday family time than being snubbed in PC because "flight time is too short," all other things being equal.

It appears the upgrade list on the flight status webpage starts getting displayed an hour or two into the 72 hour window, likely including 100K, 75K and newly added Gold?
If so, I noticed for a flight that I'm 10/11. Alaska customer service talking to a department seemed to say the list may not be in the correct order of elite level and to wait? |

if it’s SEA/LAX/SFO related, there might be a lot DL status matchers….
I haven’t seen a list out of order in a long time, but it’s possible. 10/11 as a 75K on a popular route isn’t unheard of either. I have noticed the lists considerably longer since the status matches began occurring. Sadly, I think this is to be as expected through 2024. Let us know how the list turns out at T-48 and T-24 (and the flight if you deem appropriate!). |
#2 on the waitlist, 3 seats available. Then the 3 seats are gone and I’m still on the waitlist. Screenshots before and after show that #1, 3 and 4 got upgraded.
I call customer service to ask why I got bypassed. She puts me on hold and eventually says she can’t look up that information and suggests I talk to customer care. Customer care also puts me on hold and eventually gives up and suggests that maybe 3 and 4 purchased upgrades, but she can’t look that up, only customer service can. Customer service also puts me on hold and eventually says Alaska can’t disclose the information of whether upgrades were purchased. I said I didn’t ask that, customer care did. I only ask whether the bypass was valid and he hesitantly says another agent said it was. Which scenario would you consider believable? :o Then on another flight I got upgraded from #1 with 2 seats available, while #2 and 3 got bypassed. #4 got the seat. Is there a pattern to be detected? When that is said, I think I’m getting the hang of Premium Class. The food cart didn’t come around to soon for me this morning, and I have found the drink balance of what to get when they come by and what to get when I get out of my seat and stroll to the back. My life was so much simpler before I got used to complimentary upgrades. |

My life was so much simpler before I got used to complimentary upgrades. It's possible a number of actions occurred such as: paid F pax from another flight exercising a SDC, pax #3/4 changed or cancelled flights, pax #1 received an UG, a pax upfared to f, a last minute ticket purchase. If something similar happens in the future, you may be able to glean some non-private information from the GA of the flight. Sad to hear that AS dropped the ball on your rather simple inquiry. As for the second flight, pax #2/3 could have been traveling together. 🤙🏻🥃 |
I was #2 on the upgrade list with 5 available FC seats when I checked in. When I boarded my flight, still #2 and noted, SAME upgrade list from when I checked in. I take screen shots A fellow non upgrade list member, said that gate agent was "selling" FC upgrades. No response back from Alaska (yet).
