She will oversee direct marketing, consumer advertising and e-commerce marketing for the UK and Continental Europe. She will also work closely with partners in the Star Alliance global network and Tourism New Zealand....

Let's hope they don't copy some of the disastrous moves that bmi has made in recent years.

Ozjet undecided on Rotorua base

Australian airline Ozjet is still undecided about whether to establish a base in Rotorua or Hamilton.

Either way, Rotorua residents are to have greater access to charter flights to the east coast of Australia as Ozjet plans to set up more charter flights to Australia from Rotorua for special events like the Bledisloe Cup....

Union members 'pressured to switch sides' at Air NZ

The Service and Food Workers Union (SFWU) says its staff at Air New Zealand are being pressured to leave the union and it is seeking urgent mediation.

SFWU Northern Region secretary Jill Ovens said Air New Zealand managers were threatening staff with dire consequences if they did not leave the union by Monday.

Air New Zealand was urging members to join the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU), which also has members at the airline, she said....

Changes to Minimum Connecting Time at AKL

Between NZ domestic and International services for outbound travel this is currently 1 hour, which is 15 minutes below the Auckland standard Domestic to International connecting time (MCT), used by other carriers.

As a result of a review the current 1 hour MCT will revert to the 1.15 standard MCT effective from 11th April for any new bookings.

MCT at Wellington and Christchurch remained unchanged at 1 hour.

Please note the below exceptions to the new 1.15 MCT :
NZ2210 HLZ-AKL to NZ7 AKL-MEL Mon-Fri - 60 mins
NZ500 CHC-AKL to NZ821 AKL-ADL Tue 60 mins
NZ504 CHC-AKL to NZ214 AKL-NLK Thu 65 mins
NZ402 WLG-AKL to NZ99 AKL-NRT Mon-Fri 60 mins
NZ8408 NPE-AKL to NZ703/NZ103 AKL-SYD Sun 65 mins
NZ8408 NPE-AKL to NZ703/NZ103 AKL-SYD Mon-Fri 60 mins
NZ5070 PMR-AKL to NZ703/NZ103 AKL-SYD Mon-Fri 60 mins
NZ2750 WAG-AKL to NZ703/NZ103 AKL-SYD Mon-Fri 65 mins
NZ2750 WAG-AKL to NZ703/NZ103 AKL-SYD Sun 60 mins
NZ650 DUD-AKL to NZ39 AKL-HKG-LON Wed-Fri & Sun 60 mins

To ensure we dont adversely impact any existing ticketed bookings which have a 60, 65 or 70 min connection, including but not exclusively those above, check-in staff are asked to accept any such passengers checking in at a domestic port and being thru-checked to an Air New Zealand International port, up to 27 October 2007.

...? What is the point of having a higher MCT if then have a long, complex and somewhat arbitrary list of exceptions? There are many other connections in that 60-75 minute window that will now not be allowed

Samoan agency urges Air NZ to axe its 'suicide adverts'

Air New Zealand in Samoa has pulled two of three TV adverts after a local counselling agency said they could encourage suicide.

Faataua le Ola (FLO), a lifeline agency in Samoa, raised the issue after it received reports from some viewers who dubbed the commercials as "suicide ads".

One commercial features a man at his desk in an office building about six storeys high. After sighing in distress he gets up, runs through a window and jumps out.

A view of his descent is followed by a flight over New Zealand, ending in a rest home where the character is shown meeting an elderly woman....

Oh for f**k's sake. Encouraging suicide? That is one of the most inane things I have ever read. (My reaction is to the story, btw, not to your questions ntddevsys.)

It's blatantly clear that the ads are about actually going to see your relatives/loved ones (presumably on Air New Zealand) rather than just dreaming about them or missing them (hence the supposed "sighing in distress", though that's journalistic licence if ever I saw it)... while playing on the dream everyone has of being able to fly. Marketing mumbo-jumbo? Maybe. Branding bollocks? Perhaps. But encouraging suicide? Spare me!

I liked this comment left on the Herald website

This latest series of ads are so bad that I am sure they've driven people to contemplate ending it all.

Door traps passengers on Air NZ jet for 40 minutes

Passengers were stranded on an Air New Zealand jet at Wellington airport for nearly an hour because crew could not open a jammed door.

A mechanical fault in the front door of the Boeing 737 forced crew to call for mobile stairs to disembark passengers through a rear door on Sunday.

The plane, carrying 95 passengers and five crew, arrived from Auckland about 10pm, but passengers, and those who had arrived to meet them in the terminal, waited 40 minutes till a door was opened....

Passengers deprived of duty-free goods

Joycelynn Boyce only wanted a gift to thank the friends who looked after her farm at the head of Lyttelton Harbour while she visited her son in Australia.

But instead, the Teddington woman became one of dozens of travellers who have lost their duty free goods in a glitch officials say they are powerless to correct....

Air New Zealand Group General Manager Short Haul Airlines Norm Thompson said this was an exciting development for Cook Island tourism and the airline looked forward to growing its partnership with Air Rarotonga.

This new code-share service will provide more choice for our customers and make selling the beautiful atoll of Aitutaki seamless for Air New Zealand and travel agents around the world, said Mr Thompson.

Air New Zealand will code share on all four Air Rarotonga daily services to and from Aitutaki providing good connections to and from Air New Zealands Auckland and Los Angeles services.

Air Rarotonga Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ewan Smith said the Code share with Air New Zealand is a huge step forward for both Aitutaki and Air Rarotonga, and will be a major driver in growing visitor traffic to the island. It will raise Aitutakis profile as another destination in the Cook Islands for international travellers.

Mr Thompson is in the Cook Islands this week to celebrate the re-introduction of non-stop flying by Air New Zealand between Rarotonga and Los Angeles. The first flight will depart Rarotonga this evening at 11.40 pm and the first arrival from Los Angeles will touch down in Rarotonga at 6 am on Friday April 6th.
Air New Zealand
I sent a question to Air NZ asking them when it will be possible to book flight-only itineraries (holiday packages excluded) including AIT.

The reply was not what I expected:

Thank you for your email.

This inter island route will not be available on our website in the near future, though new routes are constantly being added, and maybe included as a package holiday.

Kind regards

So even though the code share is supposed to start in three weeks, it won't be possible to book it...

Strike action planned against Air Nelson over pay

Air Nelson is to be hit by strike action over pay.

The airline, an Air NZ link company, was today issued a 14-day notice of stoppages by the Engineering, Manufacturing and Printing Union (EPMU).

Notice had been given for four three-day total strikes.

National secretary Andrew Little said the union had taken action because of what he called Air Nelson's repeated refusal to offer a "decent pay rise"....
