So we can all get a handle on how they are going to work in the real world, how much they will cost, et c.
Post flight, date, route, original fare basis (T, T+, Lat, etc), and if known, seat inventory (i.e. J9, C7, Z5, I3). If you do upgrade, please also let us know how many empty J seats there were in the cabin, if any. And if you were considering a certificate upgrade, why or why you didn't opt for the LMU.
It would be helpful if this thread could be limited to "just the facts" and no discussion, which could be posted elsewhere. That should make this thread more useful for everyone.
Should anyone want to discuss LMU's further please post in this thread:

T fare
OLCI 19 hours prior
$399
Declined
Same offer as outbound, though that would've been a 763 pod. Inbound was on an A319.

YVR - LAX Oct 17 $229 on a Reward ticket - declined
Got the upgrade anyways as the rest of the ticket was booked in J
Me - 1 AC/AE - 1 (I got the J seat and they got my loyalty to them reaffirmed)
Others may complain, and some may be valid complaints, but personally I've had nothing but good experiences in 8 years of actively choosing to fly with them.

You were entitled to the upgrade for free. It is ignorant that AC would try and charge you.

Oh I know *technically* I am entitled to the seat but it is a flight that only has 6 business seats to start with and when I booked my reward there was no award availability so I suppose they were thinking I might want to secure the upgrade. (As a reward traveler I am extremely low on the priority list to get that seat if it wasn't assigned to me to start with.)

23.5 hours before departure
$359 + tx = $405.22
Declined.
#0009 on checkin list, so no chance of an op-up either.

I suppose you're right. However, in the end, the flight was not full. I checked about 45 mins before departure, and it was still R4. So no op up. 17C was comfy enough.

He is only entitled to the upgrade for free if there is R space after everyone has had their chance at it in aerolotto. By purchasing a LMU, he skips aerolotto and guarantees his seat. He was lucky that there was still a seat available; in most routes he would have flown in the back unless he purchased the LMU.

Oct 19 FRA - YOW (Booked in "L")
- 7 days out R0, J0, C0
- 4 days out R0, J0, C0 - added to waitlist as an E
- t-24 R0, J0, C0 - added to waitlist
- t-6 I was told at checkin one seat available 50/50 chance of upg clearing
- upg confirmed at the gate on boarding.....eventually 2 seats were available. I got the last one
I am happy it cleared obviously.....however can anyone explain how an oversold flight in business (ac.com was not even displaying a business class fare one week out) allow 2 upgrades on the day of departure? Just curious is all.
