So we can all get a handle on how they are going to work in the real world, how much they will cost, et c.

Post flight, date, route, original fare basis (T, T+, Lat, etc), and if known, seat inventory (i.e. J9, C7, Z5, I3). If you do upgrade, please also let us know how many empty J seats there were in the cabin, if any. And if you were considering a certificate upgrade, why or why you didn't opt for the LMU.

It would be helpful if this thread could be limited to "just the facts" and no discussion, which could be posted elsewhere. That should make this thread more useful for everyone.

Should anyone want to discuss LMU's further please post in this thread:

- Of course you CAN try, but it's unlikely to yield a satisfactory outcome. The LMUs are offered only through electronic channels anyway (i.e. online and kiosk check-in) so the check-in agent is not in a position to influence the price.
- No, you get the mileage for the original fare purchased.
Where do you find info about your flight? Like the "J8 C7 D4 Z4 Y9 B9 M9 U9 H9 Q9 V9 W9 S9 T9 L0 K0 N9 A0 R2" that is posted?

Also, are those the fare basis for the seats remaining?

Furthermore, I got offered $1000 for an upgrade from PEK-YYZ but not as a LMU? I asked how much an upgrade was to the front agent while check-in...is this something different than an LMU?

Also, would I get a better chance of upgrading when asking the agents at the Gate? I always see people line up when the agents start forming and I don't know what people are doing...

Completely OT, but thought I would share for benchmarking purposes. Offered an upgrade on Emirates DXB-DEL from Y-J for $182CAD. 3h00 gate-to-gate, 1368 miles, about the same as YXE-YYZ, but with lie-flat seats (77W). Decided to treat myself. I've seen YEG-YVR more expensive than that on most occasions.

Even better...

I flew home on 28 Jan on a T fare YVR-YYZ with the offer of upgrade at T-24 for the low low price of only $899.99 plus tax

Needless to say I didn't take it!

I don't think Air Canada should decrease the fares for LMU, Otherwise we will see a downgrade in the standard of service as it happened in the US where J is nothing more than a big seat. I truly believe Air Canada does a fantastic job in J, they even give you a full breakfast from YVR to YYC. AC Executive / Executive First cabins should be filled with J ticketed passengers, AC SE and E and LMU (only at a small discounted rate from J fare: probably 10 - 25%, depending on passenger loads)

Where exactly do these options show up? Do they email you after you are checked in if say at t-4 there is an LMU available or do I keep refreshing my check in on my phone?

Thanks for the help,
