This can be a very expensive accident, when the damage from overweight landing is severe. But will AC learn from this and spend more on maintenance?

The crew declared Mayday, entered a hold and returned to Fiumicino for a safe landing on runway 16R about 45 minutes after departure. Responding emergency services did not find any trace of fire, heat or smoke or source of the odour.

The passengers were taken to hotels - a number of passengers complaining their bus took them to a hotel but told them, it was not their hotel and abandoned them - over night.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Rome for about 25 hours, then departed again and reached Toronto with a delay of about 26 hours.
I would be curious if EU 261 would apply in this instance and if so, whether the passengers were adequately informed on how to get their 600 Euros from AC. I would similarly be curious what would happen if this incident happened in the opposite direction (YYZ > FCO) next month once the second phase of the passenger bill of rights goes into force. Would AC be required to pay compensation or could they slide out of it with that silly safety loophole.

yep... recovery flight. I'm sure equipment was en-route the minute the first plane turned around.

LAX could be interesting as it is too far for one flight crew to fly in then work the immediate turnaround (from yyz anyway).... plus by then the incident crew will likely have timed out too.

Incident: Canada Rouge A320 at Los Angeles on Nov 5th 2019, fumes and smoke in cabin

By Simon Hradecky, created Friday, Nov 8th 2019 17:06Z, last updated Friday, Nov 8th 2019 17:06Z

An Air Canada Rouge Airbus A320-200 on behalf of Air Canada, registration C-GKOE performing flight AC-782 from Los Angeles,CA (USA) to Montreal,QC (Canada) with 139 people on board, was accelerating for takeoff from Los Angeles' runway 25R when fumes and smoke developed in the cabin. Cabin crew reported the observation to the flight deck after the aircraft rotated, the flight crew donned their oxygen masks, stopped the climb at 5000 feet for a return to Los Angeles. Working the related checklists the odour and smoke dissipated. The aircraft landed safely back on Los Angeles' runway 25L about 14 minutes after departure. Emergency services checked the outside of the aircraft before the aircraft taxied to the apron.

The Canadia TSB reported two cabin air re-circulation filters were replaced, both engines (CFM56) received a compressor wash.

Incident: Canada B788 at Vancouver on Nov 3rd 2019, autoland fault and low fuel indication

By Simon Hradecky, created Thursday, Nov 7th 2019 20:29Z, last updated Thursday, Nov 7th 2019 20:29Z

An Air Canada Boeing 787-8, registration C-GHPQ performing flight AC-125 from Toronto,ON to Vancouver,BC (Canada) was on a visual approach to runway 08L when the crew initiated a go around due to low visibility and requested and was granted an ILS CAT 3 approach to runway 08L. On short final to runway 08L the crew received a "NO AUTOLAND" message and went around again, during the go around an "insufficient fuel" advisory was displayed. The crew declared PAN PAN in order to receive a straight in approach to one of Seattle's runways 16 while runways 34 were in use. The aircraft landed safely on Seattle's runway 16L.

The Canadian TSB reported the aircraft landed with 2800kg of fuel remaining, 800 kg above minimum fuel.

The occurrence aircraft continued to Vancouver the following day after about 15 hours on the ground in Seattle.

FF is a status code in DCS that means they've stopped boarding and printed the manifest. It's before PD.

Not surprising considering they're crossing the international date line which I hear shaves off quite a few hours

AC792 LAX-YYZ took a 2h delay today because a ground vehicle ran in to the plane and dented it. They patched it up well enough to get back to YYZ at least.

Be interested in the remarks from EF if someone has them. I am sure that one of the J pax getting freaked out after this incident and deplaning, requiring their baggage to be retrieved from a container in the hold, didn't help things either.
