J in an E90
Hello
Can someone tell me what business class in a E90 is like? Is it true there is no hot food only a cold plate? What does it consist of?
Is it worth $50 to change the flight to go on a 320 business class instead?
Im flying YEG to YYZ MOnday.
Thanks

Lately on YWG-YYZ it was been a salad with chicken or beef on top and yes it is all cold. To be honest I have had the exact same served to me in J on a 319 or 320.
Many people, me included, prefer the E90 because it has the AVOD and a smaller J cabin. For me, I would stay on the E90.

...Now the big question is whether you would get an XM'd A320. If that's the case, both offers AVOD. On the E90, you have a chance of getting a single seat - which you may or may not like. I have a slight preference for the new seats on the refurb a320. (Not a huge difference with E90 seats but it is noticeable) I'd say it's a matter of personal choice. On a flight to YEG (from YYZ) you will be offered a hot meal on the airbus. Cold plate only on E90

I had a F/A hoard the black label scotch for another pax in J when I flew YYZ - YYC a couple of weeks ago. I was not impressed!

I find the E90 seats a little narrow compared to the Airbus, and there never seems to be enough overhead storage for everyone's bags. But the disadvantages are slight and I like the single seats on the left. I'd make my decision on convenience of schedule not which plane.

J in E's
Realistically, you'll only get great food (if that) perhaps in J on International Executive class. I flew J to Las Vegas a couple of years ago and the food was OK. You will get better in any family restaurant.

the E90 are great! lots of room new planes and the seats are NOT hard like a 320. For a short flight like this one take the E90. I would pay the $50 to switch to the E90

Remember, however, that the E90 is slow and has a low ceiling. Slower than the 320 and I believe than the CRJ.
Design optimized for short range, i.e., small wing and low ceiling. Slow and inefficient for long range.

Cruising speed:
A320 - 837 km/h (520 mph)
E90 - 811 km/h (504 mph)
CRJ - 789 km/h (490 mph)
YYZ-YEG 2696 km.
Disregarding headwinds and tailwind which affect planes equally: 3.2 hours (192 mins) on A320 and 3.32 hours (199 mins) on E90.
Have a look at the YYZ-YEG schedule yourself, the block time is almost identical.
YEG-YYZ
AC158 (A320) 3:39
AC114 (A320) 3:45
AC106 (A320) 3:45

AC172 (E90) 3:45
AC178 (A320) 3:45
AC154 (E90) 3:45
(WS's 73W block time is 3:44 so you can't say we purposely fly the 320 as slow as the E90)

I guess it's all about personal preference. I normally try to avoid the E90's on my frequent YUL-YEG runs. J in an E90 is a downgrade in J service IMO. No hot meal on any flight over 3 hours is very noticable (many FA's apologize for the lack of a hot meal). I don't ever recall getting hot towel service on an E90 and it at least feels like there is less space to work, especially when someone ahead of you puts their seat back. All minor things, I know, but isn't it the little things that make J more appealing (aside from the bigger seat and more leg room)? Add in the lack of overhead storage and the questions of reliability and it's an easy choice for me.
