Any AC Frequent Flyers planning to jump to PD out of YHU?

Porter just announced service launch out of MET in St-Hubert For June 15th. I was surprised how extensive the network is including 14 weekly to YVR, 7 weekly to YYC & YEG.

I am wondering how many AC frequent flyer here are considering jumping ship especially given the excrement spectacle that is getting to YUL for the next 5 years.

Perhaps also keep the discussions in scope of AC regulars thinking of jumping ship as to not veer off into Canada or PD Threads.

It has been a while since I had my finger on the pulse of getting around in Montral, but I don't recall "getting to the south shore" as something to be looked forward to.

YHU obviously has no utility to me as a connecting airport. So the only thing that might be slightly relevant is that it's closer to the Eastern Township ski areas (but further from Tremblant). Not much difference to Jay Peak/Stowe/Whiteface. Will PD offer fares so low that I can't ignore?

No interest for me , but I dont fly to those destinations. Airport is also not as convenient from home.

Anyhow , I'm AC loyalist and have the game figured out for my needs

I can fly AC or WS in a premium cabin. PD has no premium cabin. YHU is no more convenient to get downtown than YUL, as far as I can tell. (Yes, I'm aware that at times, it has been a mess recently, but it appears the baseline to/from YHU is usually a bit longer, so it seems about a wash to me).

So why would I switch?

What's not to like about Longueuil, a city whose name makes the Quebec expression for a mullet? (A "coupe Longueuil" or in English, literally "Longueuil haircut"). But I digress .

I am conflicted about this. Most of my domestic travel is between Hamilton and Longueuil, currently all on AC. It would 100% be more convenient for me to fly from Hamilton Airport to YHU on Porter, but I also want the 25,000 SQC I get for these trips. At about $300 or 1200 SQC per segment, it adds up over about 10 round trip a year.

I think it's only a matter of time before AC offers service to YHU. Either flights or a bus service from YUL.

I cant see my self on one of these flights. It would need to offer meaningful discount vs AC.
This is also gonna be an issue for Porter because Air Transat is heavily weighted in YUL.

What I do think this can work well with, is being a connecting airport for Porter flights, instead of doing it at YOW

Tricky thing with this is that YUL has exclusivity on transborder/international flights. So they'd still need to hub at YOW especially in the winter. And in interviews I've listened to or read, Porter seems happy with YOW's overall performance.

Bummer! The only time I find myself on non-AC flights so far is the Caribbean and instances where AC doesn't offer direct options (once in Canada for the last 7 years). Even with AC, half of my Caribbean flights connect in YUL because its $100-200 cheaper.
If YHU doesnt have it.. then I dont see how/why I would move to porter.

It doesn't get me to anywhere I need to go...
YHU isn't exactly YTZ, it's arguably harder to reach than YUL from Montreal.

I suppose it works great as a scissor hub for Porter to connect Western and Atlantic Canada.
I'm not sure how viable it is as a MTL alternative, I appreciate competition, hopefully it will drive down the cost on AC's flights.

Unless the South Shore or the Eastern Townships is your final destination I don't see how YHU is really any more convenient than YUL? And that's even before the REM extension opens...

That's the thing. We are clearly not the target audience for this. I don't think it's meant to replace YUL for most travellers.

That said, the greater south shore area has a population of close to a million. That's a lot of people for whom a trip to Montreal can be avoided. And many of them just go somewhere else in Canada to visit family ...

If Porter can actually prove they can make Hamilton work... then I dont see why they cant make this work.

If Porter could convince the commuter rail line to run all day in both directions and operate a shuttle bus service......
