Boeing 737 MAX 8 (7M8) transfer/refurbishment thread (2025-beyond)

With the imminent transfer of the 737 MAX 8s to Rouge, I think there should be a separate thread to track these transfers/refurbs and to discuss the transfer.

What We Know So Far
  • 52 frames to be refurbed --> 5 will be delivered in 2026
  • 12J 165Y configuration --> 18 Preferred seats
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi for all Aeroplan members --> sponsored by Bell
  • Personal touch screens at every seat (!!)
  • New crew base to be opened up in Vancouver --> likely for the ETOPS-certified frames to run Hawaii trips
  • Existing Rouge aircraft have different futures --> A319s to be retired, A320 + A321 to be transferred to mainline AC and undergo refurbishment
COMPLETED
501 - C-FTJV

IN PROGRESS (Confirmed)
502 - C-FSCY

POTENTIALLY IN PROGRESS

Please feel free to contribute to this thread!

Apparently the 7 ntu-Lynx fins will be withdrawn by Q3 2026, but there's a rumour that AC decided to just keep them. Also I would add (for those who don't know yet) that the livery will be standard mainline with "Operated by | Exploit par rouge" stickers in the front like Jazz.

Will the 5 new frames be configured for Rouge immediately, or will they be configured in J16Y153 until they get reconfigured?

I thought they can only have 45 planes in the Rouge fleet? So don't the Lynx fins have to go eventually - they can't keep them in mainline since they can't have the same type across mainline and Rouge?

As of right now, planespotters.net is showing a 16J 153Y config for the next 7M8.

???
Rouge flies A319/320/321. Mainline flies A319/320/321

Right, but as part of the last pilot contract in 2024 there was a "restriction prohibiting common types between mainline and Rouge": https://www.reddit.com/r/aircanada/s/cL3iDg6GaQ

I'm not sure of the actual details specified in the agreement. I assume the 320 family had some sort of grandfather clause, and the 7M8 transfer won't happen overnight, but I assume they can't operate a mixed 7M8 fleet long-term.

AC Press releases stated three rows of Premium product as a row of current J will be replaced with two Y seat rows.

If Rouge maintain the seats that are there now, 19/20C/D works fine with me. Short haul is also good for me, won't do YHZ-BRU or YUL-BGI etc

So long as whatever configuration they get in Y has more space than the 319s, etc. 19/20 are alright, and other seats can be bearable, but not if they shrink them like the others and don't maintain significant "preferred seating" seats.

There are only 18 preferred seats AC announced, so presumably just the first row of Y and the two exit rows.

You can see these loaded in on a couple turns starting March 5 on YVR-YEG, operated by Rouge. Seat map confirms the only preferred seating is the bulkhead and exit rows.

So with the first Rouge Max flight being in March, will that give Air Canada time to reconfigure a max 8 or two? Also is the inaugural max 8 flight set for March 5?

Are the new interiors for Rouge simply going to be the existing MAX seats, etc or are they updating the broader cabin?
