There are standby rules for these flights in place at check-in as a last resort. It seems they tend to over cancel and those checked-in are treated as stand by tickets until boarding. When is your flight?
If someone's ticket was cancelled such as 2 days or 7 days before going to the airport, will s/he still eligible to be in the queue and talk to the check-in desk and make his/her ticket back and let him/her onboard?
If not, and if the tickets were over cancelled, why there are people in the queue and I heard some of them get standby ticket but finally refused to get onboard?
By the way, this to me is the last try. Coz once this failed, it means all the past domestic flight, hotel, tests are wasted.
hopefully there can be a way to make sure pre-departure and check-in
Thanks for reply.

Stand by is not guarantied boarding, just a chance if there is extra room. If you were cancelled I would call support and try this tactic at the check in counter.Originally Posted by John_doe_

Definitely check-in at the 24hour mark though

1. As long as the ticket has been cancelled, how to proceed the check-in process? or the whether the CI counter can do something for a cancelled booking? could you please help to advise?
2. standby ticket does mean the passenger holds a valid booking then s/he can get a standby ticket at CI counter, is this correct?
If yes, then it comes back to my question: the number of passengers in the CI counter queue shall less than the numbers of ticket (coz there are over cancellation). If so, why the passengers in the queue holding the standby ticket could be refused to get onboard.
Sorry I didn't get the logic.
I appreciate if you can help to further explanation.
Will strive to find a way from Air Canada to keep my seat in-advance rather than calling them after my ticket getting cancelled as the final try.
