Likelihood to get upgraded to J with Flex fare YVR -> PER?
First time heading to Australia (PER) and only have 38 e-upgrade points left. SE100K member, traveling on Sept 5 from YVR. Right now there are 15J empty seats (no PE seats) for the flight through Sydney and 10J empty seats and 8PE empty seats for the flight through Brisbane. For those who travel this route often, is the chance for e-upgrade from Flex (lowest) to J good? I can spend $500 to buy PE ticket for the Sept 5 leg, would that be smarter or a waste of money? Thanks!

I don't know how you're counting the 15/10, but I don't think it's accurate.
AC seems more confident in their ability to sell the BNE seats, but it's pretty early to offer advice given that they're both P0. PY will definitely put you much higher on the upgrade list, and it's a decent fallback if your upgrade doesn't clear. I would never personally waitlist from Flex on an intercontinental flight. Either I can confirm the upgrade at booking, or I'm buying PY. |
Thanks for the advice! I guess it is too optimistic thinking that I may get upgraded with Flex lol. To check number of empty seats, I count how many J class seats are empty on Air Canada website. What's a more accurate way to find out how many empty seats there are?

The only thing you can do is use a tool like EF to see what they're willing to sell, but you'll never get a number greater than 9, and even that isn't necessarily accurate. |

People flying for business/work (other peoples money) will often not book/confirm reservations until a few days before. So the load in J can change in a short time. BNE/SYD to PER in J or economy? With VA? Does the schedule (departure - arrival time) make a difference? International to domestic transfer is easier at MEL, then BNE and last SYD At times from USA/Canada to Perth via Asia can be be a better option. Or via AKL (New Zealand) http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=YVR-BNE...R&MS=wls&DU=mi

Apparently one of those scam sites is linked to by our corporate Egencia.
$50 for the same ETA - sheesh! I luckily set a co-worker down the right path. |
Seats allocated is not seats sold. Not every one will pick a specific seat allocation. Not really. I need to get to PER by Sept 7.
Oh that's really good to know. Options I see are only with transfers at BNE/SYD I happily spend good money to avoid Inter <---> dom transfer at SYD

Consider the connection via Asia idea. I have friends who live in Perth and they told me it’s the way to go and what Perth residents do. I did it via Sydney but used the Sydney bit as a stop and took a few cays to deal with jet lag. Agree with all comments above about Sydney and Melbourne. Have never done Brisbane. |

Any travel agent with GDS access can get you this ETA for free.

By time I meant the actual time of day for departure/arrivals. I happily spend good money to avoid Inter <---> dom transfer at SYD

What is GDS?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global...ibution_system While the most famous GDS systems globally are Amadeus, Sabre and Travelport (Galileo, Worldspan and Apollo) there are other smaller regional GDS systems in specific markets. For. e.g. Travelsky is a state owned company in China, and KIU System is a PSS and GDS used in Latin America, |
