From post #49 in this thread, here's one potential way to (re)inflate an AC seat:
  • Go the home screen "Your Seat". (find this on the seat side panel; not the main video screen)
    • Hold the top left hand corner "Air Canada" (with AC logo) for 3 seconds. Updated (Apr 9 18): may need to hold for as long as 45 seconds for key pad to appear
      • Dial pad shows up - hit 3-2-1.
        • Press "Reset Lumbar Support"
Note that this method has not met 100% success so YMMV.
A better method is for a crew member to use the reset switch under the seat, on the aisle side.

Compensation offers (green/white sheet completed)
40K AE- Apr 18 (50% back of the J class one way redemption)
2018 Jun - $500 coupon
2018 Sep $1,000 eCoupon or 40K AP (P fare TPAC)
2018 Sep $500 eCoupon (P fare TPAC) (no change on protest- update - 6 months later the $150 was increased to $500 - admitted they had made an error)

Compensation offers (no green/white sheet completed)
100K - May 5 (C$150 eCoupon; was moved to a functioning seat after meal service)
2017 Sept - 8,000 AE miles - reported via complaint web page after realizing it was a faulty seat, not standard discomfort; Asked for return of eUps but they declined.
2017 Nov & 2018 Feb - $500 coupons both times (second time on protest that $500 had been offered the previous time)
2018 Sep. $250 coupon (on a paid J TATL).
2018 Nov - $500 eCoupon (J TATL)

Standard eCoupon compensation offers (no haggling; following a recurring pattern)
~10+ hours: $1000
Long TPAC (TPE-YVR)

~6 to ~10 hours: $500
Short TPAC (NRT-YVR)
TATL
South America: YYZ-GRU

less than ~6 hours: 300
TCON

Have a Service Director (SD) That Is Giving You the Case of the Shrugs? Like the real life version of this ASCII emoji -> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?

No success with the SD and/or crew rectifying your deflated seat and you can't be/aren't accommodated to another J seat? If you asked for a compensation form and the SD says they have no idea what you are talking about, you can use the below picture of the stub portion to help freshen their memory (better than nothing)...

Please note that for the longest time, the "Green Compensation Form" version was used, and there have been recent reports of the "White Compensation Form" replacing the Green version. Reports here have indicated that the two forms are virtually identical except for the colour.
There is now an even newer White Form which explicitly lists "deflated seat" and "deflated seat and fixed", among many other items.

Here is a snapshot of the NEWEST full form (as of August 2019), courtesy of lallied

I have written in also. First time I did not have to write in. The last time I did. Response was fast.

Out of curiosity, did you call at night when you received the same agent three times in a row?
Night in which timezone? :P

Any observed differences in compensation or response timeframe based on status? I got an eMCO 8-9 days after my incident, $500. My wife, who was E35K at the time, still has received nothing. Same flight, same PNR.

I notice everyone talking about "white forms" lately. Mine was green... any significant diff?

My deflated seat was on a AE redemption, 50K TCON, and I received 12K as compensation, without any acknowledgement or email on the issue, just quietly deposited into my account 6 weeks after the incident.

Also- has anyone had an experience cross checking FIN information logged here and avoided their particular seat or changed, and avoided a sore bum in J?

Now white, used to be green. I have checked all seats to make sure not on list. But still deflates. I guess there are some FF who aren’t FTers...

I have been told by Maintenance that the key to successful re-inflation is to get out of your seat for approximately 5 minutes while the reset occurs.

(Less weight and pressure on the seat cushion while the process takes place).

This is interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I know we have a list of FIN numbers and seats to avoid in the WIKI, but I am not convinced that its always the same seats causing the problem. I dont know for sure, but I feel that if I sit in one of the 'bad' seats listed, it may not deflate on that particular flight. I have no evidence that this is the case, just how I see it.

I predominantly fly the 787 and you get to know your "fins". I haven't seen any set pattern or red-flagged fins. Yesterday in fact, was my first reset in months, and it took with one try. I see the logic however in getting out of the seat. You wouldn't try to aerate a conventional air mattress with somebody lying on it.

I say this respectfully as it is your workplace, but my experience differs. I had MX come onboard the acft and they re-inflated using the number pad. I did *not* sit while it was inflating. 40mins after take-off and it was deflating again (and subsequently deflated 6 (?) times that flight).

While the theory makes sense re: no weight on the seat, I don't see how re-inflating an empty seat will magically fix the initial cause of the deflation. Either there is a punction in the air bladder cushion or the pump is failing to retain the air already in the bladder.

The identified problem is at a plastic weld on the bladder. That is where they are leaking. I suppose the success of re-inflation will depend on the size of the leak. That will determine whether the pump will keep up or not. If the pump is just keeping up, and is therefore active, full time, it will eventually burn out. Then there will be a complete failure, until the pump motor is replaced.

Sounds true to my experiences... when my muffintop was larger and heavier, I'd do a reset and it would inflate but then "re-deflate" 30 minutes later. And then there are times when I have a lesser muffintop, it would stay inflated after a reset.

Why would you reset and inflate your muffintop? Does it leak too? ... actually, never mind, please don’t answer.
