Not what I would call strong winds.

SFO is landing south and departing east.
Not sure how high the ceiling has to be for them to land side by side, but it's not happening at the moment.

My bad. FAA site said "WEATHER / WIND" and I didn't read past that.

FlightAware says "due to wind".

It's not that those sites are wrong, it's just when the wind isn't blowing from the West, the universe isn't right.

And EF just says:

DELAY DESTINATION STATION
I suspect raw insight via EF into the 'real' reasons for delays may be gone forever with the Amadeus migration. Maybe not the only reason I will miss Res III, at least in the short term.

Due to the 3.5 hour delay, there was no VDB opportunity. :(

It could have been worse, like being denied delay compensation due to weather. Oh wait...

I know there are more important issues right now than this but I am still curious to hear your take: My wife and I gave up our seats on an oversold YVR-YYZ flight on 20 February. We were offered C$1800 each as cheque that would be mailed to us within 2 weeks. The cheques never arrived and the concierge desk says we have to go through the normal channels of communication because they don't have access to the respective database. As I said I know there are people who urgently need to get home first and other compensation issues that may be more important but C$3600 is not something I just don't want to give up on.

What would you recommend on how to proceed?

Write to Customer Relations or reach out on social channels...expect delays in getting a response though.

Thank you for the feedback. No, I have not gone through the normal channels yet because I did not want to keep agents busy with a request that is less urgent at this time. I may go ahead now and try to reach someone at customer care now.

Friend messaged me today saying his VDB $400 voucher expires on the 25th.

Not a lot of time left but he asked me for advice, and I gave him the following:

Ask AC Reservations to book a near-$400 flight, and then in the future ask them to cancel the flight and salvage the credit, with 24 month expiry, citing update in AC policy from the pandemic: https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/...l#/new-booking

Book any flight with confidence now, knowing that if the situation with COVID-19 changes, you can adjust your travel plans accordingly. Any new booking made for travel on or after March 1, 2020 can be changed without a fee. For non-refundable fares, you will get a credit towards future travel. Note that travel must be completed within 24 months of the cancellation date.
While I don't think my advice is wrong, I'm just wondering if there's anything I'm missing? I'm under the impression AC would never extend the expiry on these vouchers at all to begin with. Another thing I remembered to tell him was that this new 24-month credit that will soon be created can't be combined with any other credits he would have for other cancelled trips.

Sorry to dredge up this old thread, but YYZ-YVR today is nuts. The morning flights were just as bad, but I didn't save it.

I'm on 117, so I'll certainly be tracking this. I hope my checked bag doesn't get in the way.

canadiancow, I was going to take that flight as I had a YYZ-YEG—YVR that was delayed significantly, but decided to take a more “fun” route instead.

I am, coincidentally, seated at D34 staring at your flight information board as I am typing this. Small world!

Nothing's more fun than a 787. Well, VDBing is more fun, actually.

Should have gone for 117, as it would have increased my VDB chances :)

Practically speaking, other than historic OTP (which is possibly meaningless right now) , how realistic is it to identify VDB candidate flights just using tools like EF?
