They aren't automatic. You have to write in and send your actual boarding pass.

Air Canada looking to deepen partnership with Virgin Australia | Australian Aviation

Air Canada vice president for global sales Duncan Bureau says the airline is working to deepen its partnership with Virgin Australia as it expands in this part of the world through the start of new nonstop Melbourne-Vancouver services with the Boeing 787-9.

So, from a strategic perspective, everyone is happy and getting along. Great. But from comments in this thread, it seems like the nitty gritty of the partnership still needs some work, e.g. having to manually request Aeroplan miles is pretty crummy.

As of June 1, 2018, earn miles for travel on Air Canada codeshare flights operated by Virgin Australia on select routes throughout Australia connecting with Air Canada's daily year-round service to Melbourne.

Air Canada begins year-round service from Vancouver – Melbourne in June 2018. New codeshare routes via Melbourne, effective 01 June, includes the following;

Air Canada operated by Virgin Australia
- Melbourne – Adelaide
- Melbourne – Canberra
- Melbourne – Hobart
- Melbourne – Launceston
- Melbourne – Perth

Virgin Australia launched in 2000 and has since established itself as a contemporary, full-service airline with a reputation for exceptional customer service. The airline is committed to delivering the world's most engaging, stylish and rewarding travel experience.

Aeroplan Miles earned on all eligible Air Canada codeshare flights operated by Virgin Australia do not count toward Air Canada Altitude™ status.

Star Alliance™ Gold and Silver Benefits are not extended by Virgin Australia.

Find out how to earn miles on Air Canada codeshare flights operated by Virgin Australia by referring to the Terms and Conditions tab right now.

Still no information on VA accumulation on the Aeroplan site. Well done, AC/Aeroplan.

Probably because there is no VA accumulation - rather AC accumulation for codeshares operated by VA. Follow the T's&Cs tab on the AC earning page to a link:

At the end of the day I did get AE miles (not Altitude) and they did not make me send the boarding pass in. Scanning and emailing sufficed. But, it was a real hassle and require a fair bit of follow up.

1. Does this code-share also include flights to Christchurch and Queenstown?

2. What will be the effect of the end of the Virgin Australia-Air New Zealand alliance in terms of AC's codeshares on Virgin Australia to any New Zealand cities?

1. Christchurch was mentioned as a valid destination in the previous announcement of codeshares from Sydney and Brisbane, not from Melbourne. Queenstown wasn't mentioned.

2. None, except VA may promote the codeshare with AC more.

From the Altitude Report - October 18 2018

Except, when you click the red link "Book Now", it takes you to the main Aeroplan page, which is not what one expects when it says "Book Now"

So this means we can book AP rewards on VA and get AQM/AQS for it?

What a sweet deal! Maybe it will go towards MM as well!

This...I am very excited for.

Just waiting for Priority boarding / lounge access and we are all set in Australia

Now..it would also be nice to have some standard non 014 stock tickets gain some but beggars can't be choosers

Further to my post above from yesterday, I am impressed how the link for "Book Now" still doesn't take you anywhere to book anything, except to here, the main Aeroplan page.

Does AC proof the emails they send out. Oh, wait.....
.

If the link won't take you to the Air Canada site to book anything, then at least it should take you to this page

AC/Aeroplan will have some updating to do, possibly for more than one of their *A or codeshare partners.

Dang...too late now, but I didn't know that there were Altitude/Aeroplan benefits from flying VA; I thought it was just with SQ's KF program.

I ended up flying QF enough last year to earn Silver status on them.
