FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: tcook052
This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested the original 2004 - 2014 thread on the topic may be found here.

That original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. More Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about other airline/hotel loyalty programs should be posted elsewhere on FT.

While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply her as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

(I seriously don't know...that's why I was thinking WS won't be joining an alliance soon).
Air New Zealand has a dollar-based rewards program and they're a star alliance member... I mean, they also arguably have the worst FFP in existence, but still

Totally agree. I felt the same way on the 3x3 for ACr PR as well. I don't mind Y on an AE narrowbody in the preferred seating when someone's next to me. Because i'm skinny, the wider seats on AC J narrowbody birds isn't that big of a deal for me.

The main downside is that i'll have to buy a meal at the airport first. No biggie.

Well...fine then. Hmm...it would be nice to use my WS dolla dollas to hop on CX to HKG. Alright. I'm sold....but I still think it's a long way off!

I've never sat in preferred seats but I find Plus seating to be the middle ground between AC Y and AC J. That empty middle seat is so handy! I can eat and still have my laptop open on the middle tray.

For you and your dietary needs you'd probably still need to buy airport food if you went for the WS plus seat. Hummus and pita chips perhaps?

Just making a plug to a very interesting discussion about taxation and income inequality. I was inspired to make this due to the federal election. Since we are in one, I thought I'd plug my own thread

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/omni-...-taxation.html

Hope to see some familiar faces on there! Interesting discussion about social programs, taxation schemes etc.

No, not even close. It's worse than LH intra-Europe "J". But they're starting to market it as J in some cases, it seems.

That's pushing it. The LMU for "J" is a lot more reasonable than AC.

Alright, so I won't bother trying WS anytime soon. Let alone the status match. I think that ship has sailed though.

That's not what I was referring to. I believe that one of the articles on WS's new blocked seats mentioned they were going to classify it as business class in its GDS or whatever because it was similar to what some airlines call J in Europe. And I did a couple of searches with Google Flights where it didn't warn me that WS legs were in Y. Then again, when I search for a few random things using Google Flights now, they all flag WS as Y.

those AP redemption changes... I don't even. Are there really any reasons left not to credit AC to UA now? -sigh-

NA to Europe 1 in LH F is 140k + YQ with Aeroplan, or 220k with MileagePlus.

So yes, if you value the YQ at less than 80k miles, there's still a reason.

Are you familiar with UA's chart for non-UA flights in premium cabins? The mileage requirements are way higher than Aeroplan's.

- that's only for partner flights though. I can easily fly to Europe on United. Why would I pay more miles AND more YQ? Also, United's partner award chart is 140k in J vs Aeroplan's 110k, that's not a HUGE difference.

- otherwise I'll just ditch *A alltogether and fly OW/Alaska and fly on 100k Biz-awards / 125k First without YQ.

EDIT: Not to mention that upgrade awards are probably gonna go up too? We'll see.

Well if you're fine with flying UA, then I agree that MP works better for you.

I have a MP account too, and I see places where it makes more sense than Aeroplan. But if your goal is to fly a "good" F product, MP is not a good option.

Aged Macallan is still sold in the States. It is my understanding that aged Macallan is coming back to Canada in 10 to 12 year after they build up their supply.
