No disrespect intended and this doesn't apply just to you, but maybe the changes to the program are the real source of irritation (fair IMO) and criticizing the way the message was delivered is just an easy way of expressing some of that irritation? In short, the quote isn't really the problem, it's the changes to Altitude.

Although I agree it was phrased in somewhat of a gauche fashion, I wonder if we're reading a bit too much into the statement. As stated elsewhere, Ben L isn't the social media person, and his comment was from the, so to say, heart - rather than the 'official' position. I would think that if he WASN'T the 'official representative', we wouldn't have read into that quote any more than necessary.

This position may have been implied by the changes AC has introduced, but I wouldn't necessarily crucify him specifically for that statement. Just my two cents. The last thing we need is for him, or AndrewY, or BenS to say 'well, if every single word we say will be disected in this way, then we better just do like the other airlines and not post at all.'

Not that I'm an apologist - I don't like these changes any more than the next person, but, well. There's a dude behind it who seems to be genuinely helpful at other times, so.

That's why I wanted to throw it out there and highlight the statement. See how other people feel about it. Personally I think we are giving AC and their reps here way too much benefit of the doubt. Don't think for a minute that any of their comments are purely accidental.

+1 and do we really need another thread on this part? (Mods: this is being covered elsewhere I think)

If we want to be taken seriously, IMHO, we should stick to the facts of the issues and not be (potentially) viewed to be sensationalistic on any of this stuff.

Is there a lese majeste law on the books to protect AC royalty from insult or criticism now? Admittedly I haven't read their contract of carriage lately.

I was just thinking along that line. AC may restrict his access a bit......Ben Smith may be here soon.

I disagree. Let people debate in a respectful manner. I for one find it interesting to read the different opinions.

If the debate is civil, there is no reason to wack it.

Ben S has already posted. Haven't seen him on since his post last night, but it was great to know he knows that we're posting like flies reproducing...

Let me tell you what cheapens the J product

- cleaning staff leaving used socks under seat twice.
- special meals not making it on board
- IFE systems that don't work
- footrests that always fall down onto shins when loose
- occasional rude and horrible flight attendants
- cheap earbud type headphones distributed
- same meals all the time. Lack of change in menu.
- being yelled at by a ground staff agent for a carry on that is not measured.
- being treated rudely.
- priority boarding not honoured.
- luggage coming out really slowly in YYZ
- priority luggage coming out after regular luggage
- off duty flight attendants sitting in J
- and many more.......

I really just want to know how people feel about it. It's the crux of ACs decision making on the issue of upgrades and not everyone has time to read through soon-2000 posts on the main forum.

Compare this discussion to last year, when all we heard from AC was an official but anonymous marketing engine, giving us carefully worded positive spin.

I would much rather have Ben & Andrew treat us like adults, and have a real conversation - including their personal perspectives about the root cause.

I'm sure we could ask AC to setup another sticky thread where only official marketing people with carefully considered, non-inflammatory, all-rounded words will appear. That's what I think the consequence would be, of what you're asking for. Personally, that's not for me.

I think the crux of AC decision making is $$$. They need people in J who pay for J.
