Why the cold plate

The plating and food are quite fancy, but why the Arctic plate? Why are the plates not pre-heated before dishing up the nibbles? Not a fan of the cold plate sucking the heat from my meal.
That chickpea thing that has surfaced with the hawkesworth poulet is very nice (be better served on a heated plate). Did I mention I'm not a fan of the frozen plate?

That one is a challenge. We do it when space/loads permit. Generally doable on the 767 oddly enough which have last generation KSSU boxy & square larger ovens. Other aircraft warmers and ovens are filled to capacity given recent configuration changes. Plates are housed in an equipment trolley which are never placed in refrigerated compartments.

Oh, do they still do "table clothes" on International J? Should I complain if the whole J cabin didn't receive any for both services?

The Hawksworth signature dish I had on my recent TATL flight (grilled chicken breast) was pretty underwhelming.
No one would have thought it was from a celebrity chef if the menu did not say so.

They're baaaaaack.

P.S. I'm talking about the "light fixtures" on the snack baskets.

For better quality, see Dorian's photo upthread

Best J class meal type YYZ-HKG?

I'm flying J on AC 16 Aug 9 returning AC 15 Aug 18 and wondering what is the best meal selection to request in advance. I usually get the vegetarian (there are so many choices) although I will eat meat.

Cdn Airlines use to offer a seafood selection which was hit and miss depending on the departure airport.

If you will eat meat.... why not just take one of the 4 choices you get on board? Normally there are 4 choices one of which is vegetarian anyway.

I don't believe there is generally a vegetarian choice amongst the regular 4 on Asia routes. While I don't do HKG flights, Japan has the Kasieki meal and China/Korea destinations feature a protein (beef or pork) route speciality.

I always order fish, my second choice would be chicken. Steak is always the worst idea.

I usually do the steak. Good 8 out of 10 x. I find the fish always over cooked. good 1 out of 10 x
