AC equips fleet with automatic external defibrillators

FYI. From a AC communique.

"Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) Save Lives. It is estimated that many
lives could be saved if automatic external defibrillators (AED) were more widely
available at the time of an emergency. Air Canada recently proved the theory
true when we used an on-board AED to help save a customers life. En route to
London Heathrow, AC 8056 was diverted to St. Johns on May 17 when a 56-year-old
passenger went into cardiac arrest. Thanks to the efforts of the crew, on-board
medical experts and the AED, the patient was later released from a St. Johns
hospital. Air Canada is currently in the process of installing AEDs on our
aircraft, beginning with the A319 and A320 fleet."

Excellent initiative AC. Kudos.

Bravo AC. It's too bad it's taken this long, but am glad it is happening at all.

Wonder why they don't begin with the long haul fleets first or is it installed already?

That was the flight I was on and posted about the incident on our "Doctor" thread when I got back home. [Actually, it was AC856, an A340, late out of YYZ, overbooked, with passengers and crew thankful our passenger was able to be saved.] So I guess this answers Empress' question. Yes, the intercontinental aircraft had already been equipped with them, and this is now extending to the domestic/transborder routes served by narrow body aircraft.

That's great!
Having the AEDs on board makes our job a lot easier if called to help.
I haven't actually had to shock someone with an onboard AED yet, but having the heart rhythm available for analysis on the screen has helped me with sick patients not in full cardiac arrest.
Anyone know what model of AED is being used on AC flights? I ask only because some AEDs do not have a monitor displaying heart rhythm, and some have a manual override that can allow more sophisticated use by properly trained personnel.
