still simplistic, there are certain A/Cs where bins are designed to hold the bags vertically.......have some numb-nuts place them horizontally and whoever is trying to accommodate extra bags (be it the FA or another pax) will bound to touch it and move it.......... Wanna cause a scene by saying "F-off my bag"...... sooner or later it turns into an episode of Jerry Springer.........

Back to OP's situation..............last thing the FA needed was a victim turned into an aggressor...... which potentially means (drama/yellow card/kicked out).............. But I do agree i would say something to the line of "hey......what are you trying to do?"

Long story short, not rocket science............ and some common sense involved.

Because you'd flame up and freak out? Sometimes stuff happens faster than you can respond - and you know what? I thought no one would ever touch my stuff but it happened. When it happens to you, lets see how you respond.

Either way - the staff made a possibly volatile incident into a good and funny one. Hopefully the jerk learned. What goes around comes around...

In regards to UA / CO I've noticed that too - but I've also noticed that the FA's are MUCH more vigilant on boarding in the right group, and bags that are oversized - no question gate check them. They dont tolerate much.

I've noticed CO/UA FA really cracking down on size and number of bags as well as stopping people from trying to use a bin as they enter plane instead of over their assigned seats.

I like that.

Doesn't matter what AC the OP was one, there is a right way and the wrong way to get your point across. I don't have a problem if someone is moving items around to make room for thier items, however when it come to someone moving mystuff and then hand me my bag because there is no room for thier, then yes, I would talk to that person.

Regarding getting the FA, I would bring the FA in way before any thing physical would happen. I would hope that the Lead FA would see there is a problem and resolve it.

I think you need to reread my comments.

Never said I would "freak out" or "flame up". I stated that I would inform the person he didn't have permission to hand me my bag that placed in the over head bin, I would explain that is one of the problems of getting on the plane late.

Now if the incident becomes volatile then the other person is a jerk and would be escorted off the flight, as I wrote, hopefuly the lead FA would see this issue and intervene.

I'll stand by what i stated, if you allowed this person to move and hand your item back you because they wanted room for thier items and you didn't speak up then complain about it in a passive agressive way people will continue to do it to you.

JS, did you do a mini-parade around the cabin with your ice cream, licking and smacking your lips with each scoop/bite?

Kudos to you for being cool about the whole affair, even though it was an awkward situation. I think I was on the same flight (not) and saw the guy afterwards with a big pout and puffy eyes, complaining to his mommy that he didn't get any dessert.

Must have been on the wrong flights. From where I sit, the problem is as bad as ever. Just this afternoon, two full carts of gate checked bags for a 45-min hop on a Q400...

There's a difference between shifting my bag around to fit an extra one next to it (perfectly acceptable) and dumping my bag off the overhead bin (maybe the death penalty does have its purpose).

I like that.
I did see them gate check a bunch of carry-ons on UA 361 a couple of days ago, though a woman in "F" had a bulging rollaboard which could not possibly have fit into the sizer. At least she had to go back to Y to stuff it into one of the bins there.

I was on a UA flight SFO-LAX a couple of weeks ago...being AC*E I could board early...i had my small roll aboard with my backpack together that took the same space as a reg. carry on. At the end of boarding a suit comes on and of course there is no space. he was frantically opening bins and saw my combo and starting barking whos it was...i put up my hand! He said his was bigger and that both of my bags need to go under my seat so he can get the overhead bin....the FA was standing right there and recognized me a Star Gold - and immediately shut the bin and said to the guy " He is a star gold and was here ontime to get the bin - he will not lose his legroom because of your tardy behind...fit it under your own seat or give it to me and it goes underneath"....WOW - good job! the FA even gave me a free beer on the quick hop down the coast...

Now that's how it should be done. You didn't even have to say a thing. The suit got kicked in the junk, and the FA did their job.

Still - I know from here I'll be watching like a hawk and if someone touches my bag they'll be sitting 3 rows back faster than you can say "devaluation of elite benefits and no ice cream"

Really? You would seriously risk getting physical over an overhead bin? With possibility of handcuffs and a nice visit to your friendly neighbourhood jail for some time, where you may make someone's "ahem" B?

I didn't think so...

payam81, if you'd read this thread from the start, you'd realize that jazzsax is the OP, and he DIDN'T get physical, and some criticized him for NOT taking action...his latest remark was in jest. But I gather, so was yours.
