E Upgrade Problem
I'm think the new E Upgrade program in general is very good and I support it. Although today I experienced a flaw the rpogramI hope can be fixed.
I'm upgraded on Flt 154 via YEG but I have collegue who is also on the flight and I wanted to see if I could upgrade him also. I was told that they have to either be in my one of my selected e upgrade members or booked in the same file. So he is not one of my selected e upgrade members and we both are booked on a flight passes. So how can I upgrade him and there is room but were not on the same file. In the past it would just be a paper handed over. When we do travel together we will never have the same file cause again we both book our flights on flight passes. This is wrong and in the growing pains of this great program this is one that needs changing.

One travel companion must be on the same PNR; Or, select nominee(s) for independent upgrade options.
If you created an eUpgrade account on aircanada.com, I don't know how you missed all these details.

You do not have to remind those us who think the new system is poorly designed that there are people like you who think it is very good. You found one flaw. Welcome to the legions who have found flaws beyond yours. That said, I believe two files can be merged/split. I just did one of those. I had a file split into two. The agent gave me a new booking reference for the second file.

No, it's not a flaw. The new eUpgrade system was designed specifically to prevent the ability to upgrade anyone on the same flight that we used to be able to do with the paper cert. It was discussed in detail in numerous other previous threads. AC called it an enhancement. I along with some other FT'ers would call it something else.
The only plus is that the nominee may request upgrade even when not travelling with you. However, one is allowed only a limited no. of nominees and once nominated, they cannot be removed until the end of the programme year.

Limited numbers are a good idea,IMO as it keeps the the potential for abuse to a minimum

It was an abuse.
The original intent was presumably to enable a status member to upgrade a friend or colleague on the same flight but certainly not a vast upgrade to "burn" expiring/surplus cert. not usable by the original owner.
I "warned" about the limited no. of nominees was merely to caution to use them wisely because one might not nominate A today, remove A tomorrow to change to B.

I have wondered about multi-person flight passes and how they mesh with the eUpgrade system. I've never had a flight pass for business so I don't know how they work - can one authorized user make a reservation for more than one user or does everyone have to make theirs separately? I know that's how the multi-person sun passes work, is it the same for the business versions?
If so, it should be possible for an Elite member to upgrade anyone else that they're traveling with when using one of these passes. Won't help individual pass users however.

[QUOTE=californiadreamin';16125643]No growing pains, it's exactly has been promoted since the eUpgrade programme was introduced last fall.

I missed nothing
Not sure you understood my issue at all. We were traveling on 2 separte flight passes and no he is not on my e upgrade list. I travel with him 3-4 times a year. So there is no way to put us n the same PNL and that is what I think is a mistake. Before it was simple paper certificate.

Why not just nominate him? You are allowed 4 companions to upgrade. Or have the pnr merged and upgrade him. Problem solved.
Yes the system isn't the same as the certs but it was never meant to be. Some people benefited from the certs and others dont. Same with the eupgrades, personally for me it doesn't benefit me, but for people who fly lat fares all the time this is a huge benefit.
