Upgrading with eupgrades process
Hi all,
I booked a flight from YYC-SYD-YYC, and want to use my eupgrades. I understand I need to wait 4 days prior to the flight to request the upgrade, but I'm wondering if this looks right. It says I'm not eligible for an upgrade, and I'm hoping it's only because I'm outside the 4 day window at the moment.
Also, is the 4 day window based on the departing time/date of my first flight?
Thanks

Presumably it just means ineligible right now?
What status do you have, Elite I guess? And what fare code were the tickets?
In past years it was midnight on the fourth day prior to departure from the first leg. However the computer didn't allow it until 96 hours prior to the departure so you had to call in. Nobody knows how it's going to work now but I suspect it'll be the way the computer worked previously.

Thought the new system would be good enough to just let us request the upgrade at the time of booking, and seats would be released automatically when we hit our elite window, subject to availability. If sectors did not upgrade at that time, we'd be moved into a cue that would clear prior to check-in or at the gate. No more having to request at the elite upgrade window, nor more airport waitlist based on check-in time. That's how other airlines do it.

eUpgrade waitlist requests are carried through until flight departure. If your waitlisted upgrade request does not clear before you check in, it is automatically transferred to the airport upgrade standby list for clearance at the gate.
But you'll still need to wait until your booking window (2/4/7 days) before you request the upgrade.

Thanks. I see that, but I still think that I will need to actually request the upgrade at the 4-day window as an E. The system only allowed me to request an upgrade for the Latitude fare. For the T+ fare it just says that I'm not eligible yet. What SH was meaning (I think) was that it would be nice if I could have requested an upgrade to my T+ fare now..outside of my window but have it "stored" so that the system automatically requested it for me 96 hours before departure.
See it gets more complicated as you think it over - and it's already complicated enough.

The problem with that is if a lot of people are doing this, do they just create yet another pre-upgrade waitlist? What about the pecking order within that pre-upgrade waitlist then? Time? Status? Booking class?

I know the list gets transferred but then is it resorted by status, etc. or kept as is...

There's nothing complex about cueing bookings in this way based on the normal priority, augmented by the earliest booking/request. SEs will always go to the top of the waitlist queue when R is not available, but then it becomes a matter of when the booking was made and who has the higher fare class between SEs and Es.

The old way with certs/phone at -4d 00:00 was better. Elites 'in the know' were able to jump the online UG request opening at -96h and have a few hours lead time ahead of the online upgraders. It seems that will no longer be an option with the new ecredit system.

When I was back from my trip (NRT-YYZ-YUL), I did OLCI 24h before going to NRT airport. Saw the ''eligible for upgrade'' button. It was a green button. I did not know what would really mean and if it was really for an upgrade. I just printed my BPs. While checking-in at AC's EC counter, I asked to the agent if there were any available seats in EF. I didn't ask to be upgraded, but she upgraded me by printing a different BP.

Of course this is easy. But so is showing us how many of our miles will expire in year 201X.
To have an automated upgrade queue based on fare, status, time of booking etc would likely bring about a new round of enhancements ...
