Weight and balance can be done manually by qualified staff, so shouldn't be too much of a problem. The real difficulty when systems go down is the check-in side of things.

Its a total nightmare

Disruptions Saturday September 10, 2022

Due to a major incident with a network provider, our cloud-based systems enabling check- in, boarding and booking through our website, B2B API and GDSs are currently unavailable.
A network provider servicing the cloud-based system has experienced a major break in connectivity impacting both primary and secondary connectivity. At this time the provider has not been able to give Aer Lingus an estimate of the time when the break in connectivity will be restored.

Unfortunately, this is causing severe disruption to Aer Lingus services today. Consequently, all flights originally scheduled to depart from Dublin Airport for European and United Kingdom destinations from 2.00pm onwards today have had to be cancelled.

As we are currently unable to communicate directly with customers, we are asking customers booked to travel on those flights not to come to Dublin Airport.

We sincerely apologise to all customers impacted by todays disruption and cancellations.
Any customer impacted by todays disruptions will be able to change their travel plans, free of charge either through our call centre and social media channels or with their travel agent. We will advise you when IT systems are restored, and this change option is fully available.

As soon as systems are restored our teams will work to re-accommodate those impacted as efficiently as possible and share information regarding customers rights and the airlines obligations under Regulation (EC) 261/2004.
We are working intensively with our system partners and their network partners to resolve the connection issues as soon as possible.

My wife and daughter are in T2 Dublin now, waiting for the 14:30 to LHR. The news says all flights cancel, but no announcements in the terminal. I rang EI to ask for a reroute and they said they cant even arrange reroutes right now. This is an important trip for them, if I were to book the ferry and drive them, do you think that EI would cover the ferry cost?

Waiting at the gate for ei101. I know ground staff always have limited info but they legit havent given them anything. A flight to Chicago manually boarded like an hour ago but its still sitting at the gate. Agents saying we will board but I have little faith. No communication from Aer dingus.

Manual at LHR this morning, but most passengers with checked bags etc. were connecting at LHR, only us flying direct got caught. They were boarded and doors closed with check-in still open.

Spotted our aircraft still on stand (according to FlightRadar24) and asked the duty manager if we and others in our manual queue could still board? Eventually the right calls were made.

Further delays as they had to reload baggage to correctly trim the aircraft.

Still, our baggage wasnt loaded and the next flights out all appear to be cancelled. Im onwards to the USA in two days. We will see..

Looks like Astral is absolutely fine, someone has dug up the cables at some data centre location in the UK

For the technically minded this may make some sense https://enterprise-solutions.ie/aer-lingus/
