With the evolution of the Miles&Bonus program, there are a number of threads on this forum that contain outdated information, plus a further set that - whilst describing the new program - contain conflicting information that has only been crystallised as we all discover how certain aspects of the program either work or are interpreted.

It is perhaps therefore unsurprising that many new members find searching through this myriad of threads a little daunting, and consequently they post a question in one of the FAQ threads.

This tends to irk those who've been around for a while who expect the new posters to at least do some basic searching before posting a question that has probably been asked many times before. This also causes the forums to become very congested and less easy to read through with the same question being asked and answered many times.

I am therefore creating a thread, which will be stickied, for anyone to ask any question they like about the M&B program where they are unsure or it's not obvious where they should be posting it.

There is no such thing in this thread as a stupid question, no issue with asking a repeat question, and any answers should be 100% flame-free. I will take a dim view of anyone that abuses a member or provides a less than helpful answer (such as 'do a search') to any question asked in here, because this is being created to benefit all of us so the other threads flow more cleanly. Thank you for your co-operation on this.

It might be that I move questions to more appropriate threads so they receive an answer more quickly, but if I do so I will always add a note to indicate where they originated, and ask that the flame-free answer principle be respected.

The mile calculator is usually close to the distance but sometimes a bit off (airlines have their own chart for a distance, some are using city pair rather than airport for examples). I have never noticed any big differences between my expectations and the actual miles credited. You might have met one of the few buggy/weird ones.

Does anyone know how early you can check a bag in at LHR for a 22:15 departure?

Last time I was told 3 hours but if you go to a supervisor they can ( if they want ) get you checked in at any open Star Gold desk. It depends who you get on the day.

It will be cabin size luggage anyway, but the problem is I have a long connection in Athens the next day. I want to visit the city without my luggage. Would I be able to check it in for the second flight at Athens in the morning, for a 4 pm departure?

Hi again

Has anyone done a back to back with A3 out of London?
I see there's a flight arriving at 5:50pm and then back at 7:10pm

in the BA B2B thread it says reasonable, but couldn't read any real experience mentioned.

And been in Athens already, so would be just for the sake of the segment.

Anyone have done it?
Thanks!

Yes, I did that once before on a shorter turnaround than that (I believe around 50 minutes). I even went landside and picked up a boarding pass at the check-in desk, as the A3 check-in computer didn't like the short turnaround in LHR at all, despite the fact that it was all on one ticket. I would however mention that I was on the red-eye back from LHR to ATH so T2 was completely empty but I'd still be confident of making it even if busier, especially if you have Gold Track access. The crew on the return flight were amused to see me again but I had warned them before I got off in LHR. Hope that helps!

Thank you Croppers

I was actually asking LHR to ATH, so the question was more on how easy would be to do the return in ATH.

Apologies if I wasn't clear!

Careful! There are no "turnaround" flights at ATH in the real sense of the term. As a rule, most international flights originate in Athens and "end" there (ATH= A3 hub). In other words, even if 80 minutes is usually more than enough time for what you are planning, the next flight to LHR will very probably be carried out by a different plane. This means that if the incoming flight from London is late, the outgoing one may well leave on time, thus reducing your stay at ATH considerably! Although the chances you get back to London are theoretically good, you are still running a risk of missing your flight, with everything costly that this entails.

Oops, sorry. In my enthusiasm to answer your question I misread it.

I would second this advice. Theoretically, you're fine but a delay on the inbound to ATH could make it a little hairy. I find ATH very easy and quick to transit but it is a slight gamble. I think the only thing that would save you is if you could book it as one ticket, as then I believe A3 would have to rebook you back to LHR if you missed your "connection". I would feel confident if doing it that way, but if anyone else has other information, feel free to correct me!

Middle name

Hi
Just wondering if I need to put my middle name in when signing up for A3 Miles and Bonus? I have a middle name on my passport.
Thanks in advance.

No need, I did not put my middle name in my account and this has never been an issue.

Do you know any search engine or airline that allows you to enter the same airport as your departure and your destination? Because I don't think that searching for a "return trip" is the same thing as the "one ticket" (meaning one way) which would (if possible) in fact save you...

Hi,

sorry if this question has already been replied, I have browsed a few pages but could not find the answer.

I understand that a flight on LH P yields no miles on A3 FFP, but if is a Swiss ticket on LH metal, the 100% applies?

Thanks very much,

Unfortunately not. With Star Alliance, it's metal that counts so LH P will always earn zero regardless of which flight number is on the ticket. This is one thing I think SkyTeam and OneWorld do better but we have to live with it as part of the "game".
