In the fine print it says something to the effect that if you cancel your reservation you'll get the SNU back (regardless if the reservation itself is refundable) but if you no-show you won't.

From the information that I can see on the website the SNU certificates can not be used in any hotel in France 🤣🤣🤣 It looks like a bad joke for a French hotels chain?!

Exclusions:
GERMANY: Fairmont Vier Jahreszeiten - OK, fine. For whatever reason.

Pullman Aachen Quellenhof - This property I don't get. It is an absolute dump of a property. Poorly maintained with poor staff training. Why isn't Accor Management kicking this property out?

starflyergold Dec 12, 2019 11:52 pm

At first I thought it was a joke but the list of non-participating hotels (and countries!!!!) is an admission of abject failure by Accor. One just cannot make this up.

According to the exclusion list linked to above that was just released today, we SHOULD be able to redeem SNUs at Raffles and even Fairmont Barbados/Savoy/PlazaNYC (which are hotels where we previously could not redeem Fairmont Confirmed Suite Upgrade certs), is my interpretation correct?

Additionally, if Accor treats Ovation certs like Fairmont used to (as a regular paid stay), then we should be able to apply SNUs to Ovation cert stays, correct?

wkndtraveler Dec 13, 2019 1:11 am

France, Greece, Italy, Monaco, Portugal, and Spain not participating. Really?

I see no point of introducing a new benefit and then make sure it's as difficult as possible to use.

Either hotels participate in ALL or they don't participate at ALL. It should be as simple as that.

This hotel will leave Accor on 31 December 2019 and will go independent: https://www.di-gruppe.de/aachener-gr...ller-fuehrung/

It could be a great property if they actually renovate it.

OMG !!! A very bad joke indeed  . I still can’t believe that. Unacceptable
And about the brands excluded, I don’t see why the entire Novotel brand should be excluded. Some Novotel (London Canary Wharf, or several in Asia) have very nice suites.
And for the luxury brands, what’s the rationale for Rixos, Banyan Tree ?

nkob Dec 13, 2019 5:30 am

it become very difficult to use SNU
DIamond was allready not worth 12000 points extra
Plat become less interesting too for me
ALL is not a improvement!!
I dont understand the policy behind this .
greetings cornelis

LOL LOL LOL LOL.

Anybody with a good connection with Accor. Can you ask why... I would like to laugh more about there explanation.

CanadaDH Dec 13, 2019 5:41 am

I'm surprised than any of you are surprised? Look at Accor's track record with every initiative they undertake. Look at their consistent failures, with poor communications, the worst loyalty system of any major chain even if it could be implemented properly, inept customer service, abysmal IT. The list goes on. I agree with the opinions that the rules around SNUs are absolutely stupid. But, surprised, I am not, and have been rather vocal about my predictions that Accor will find a way botch this up too and make them very difficult to use and devalue them to the customer as much as they possibly can. Accor finds ways to announce 'benefits' which are supposed to drive loyalty and excitement, and all they succeed at doing is creating irate members. As I've said repeatedly, the race to the bottom is the only race that Accor is capable of winning. They need to clean house at HQ from the CEO on down, and find some people with actual talent. They need a total replacement of corporate culture.

Unfortunately, Accor doesn't treat SNUs the way Fairmont used to. The SNU, at least at the moment, can't be applied to an existing booking. When I called the Fairmont res line to enquire about SNU usage at some properties, they had to connect me to an Accor agent. The Accor agent then called up the rates applicable to booking with a SNU, and it ended up being the regular 'daily rate', and most other promo rates and packages offered by various properties and bookable directly off the Fairmont site, can't be combined with a SNU. So if I can't even apply a SNU against a new booking using the AAA rate that is available to anyone right off the hotel website, then I can't imagine being able to upgrade a stay booked with an Ovation certificate. You might have better luck calling in-house reservations at the property you wish to stay at, and see if they will do it for you. I don't think you'll get any love from the central Accor booking channel.

I guess these exclusion list is always exists in any loyalty program that have weak compliance enforcement.

I was curious too, so I called... Yes, you can use a SNA at The Plaza. You have two options... Book a "Plaza King" rate and stay in a "Grand Luxe King Room" (which isn't even a suite, so it sounds more like a room upgrade). Or, book a "Deluxe King" rate, and stay in a "Junior Suite". The only rate available with the SNA is the fully flexible daily rate, less the standard 5% member discount. I've stayed in their Junior Suites, and they're very nice.

Of course, that's not particularly useful, since The Plaza has an ongoing "Suite Rewards" rate, which is basically 20% off the full Daily Rate. You may well be better off just booking the straight up 20%-off rate, instead of paying full daily rate and using the SNA. So, on the surface, the new SNA sounds more generous than the old Fairmont Presidents Club upgrade, where suite upgrades were not accepted at all at The Plaza. However, under the old program, they did accept room upgrade certificates, and you were able to use a room upgrade certificate and go into the Grand Luxe Room from the Deluxe Room, just like you can with the new ALL SNA. But, in the old program, you could apply that upgrade to just about any bookable rate. Oh, and you could use the old FPC room upgrade for a stay of up to 5 nights. Sorry if that bursts your bubble!
