A group of friends and I stayed 3 nights at this Mercure. Overall I was very impressed by this humble Mercure. Nice rooms, excellent staff and outstanding Le Club Platinum recognition.
The reason why I had chosen this property were the very mixed reviews of the Sofitel (and its exorbitant rates) and the fact that the local MGallery looks like it could star in adult movie (red walls and bathtubs in the bedroom.... seriously?)

Check In
2 days in advance the hotel got in touch via Whatsapp message and asked if I needed anything. Perfect way to arrange any special requests which were confirmed right away. We arrived in the evening and everything was prepared for our arrival. Key cards, drinks vouchers (for the entire party) were handed over, as were free tickets for the Colosseum (nice touch). As the rooms were pre-paid no further formalities were required.
Room
We had booked Privilege rooms which are the highest category so no upgrade was possible. The rooms are large and feature a very large and comfortable bed, a sofa and plenty of desk space. The minibar containing soft drinks and water was free. A Nespresso (with three capsules, replenished daily) and a kettle for tea or instant coffee was also available). Wifi was free (with high speed vouchers also provided).
Overall a very spacious and comfortable room.
Service
Service was truly outstanding. The staff without fail greeted guest with a smile and courtesy. When help was needed, for example restaurant recommendations, they came up with some great suggestions.
The hotel also has an outdoor swimming pool overlooking the Colosseum and a roof top bar. While the pool and bar were closed for the winter the weather was so nice that we brought our welcome drinks up and enjoyed the sun.
Dining
We only had breakfast at the hotel. While decent this is only area where I could possibly suggest some improvements in terms of quality. It was ok but not great. Again the staff were very friendly though.
Location
The hotel is very well located. A tram stop is right outside and the nearest metro stop in a 5 minute walk away. Taxis are easy to get. Rides to/from FCO have fixed rate fares (48).
Overall
Overall I would choose without hesitation this hotel again. It is well located, has great rooms and impeccable service.
The great Le Club recognition made this an outstanding stay.

And considering that the Sofitel up the road could then get so many things wrong.. Thanks for the review SFG.
By the way, with the recent complaints we have had about several properties and especially the LCAH loyalty treatment, I have been advised by high up to give as negative review as possible in TA and the survey we are sent by email after a stay.
Seems that hotel GMs are measured on the client satisfaction on these two platforms and as much as we like to vent here on FT, it amounts to zilch.
I have been promised that management will work more to train hotels and the hotel management, but with the really rogue properties, the best is to post negative reviews on TA and the survey.

Waiting on the private sale to see if they have any decent rates.
It was pretty good value a few weeks back on the weekly private sales, didn't grab it then.
Now it's doubled.

Somehow I missed this thread at the time. I found it just adequate but without a WOW factor too and would not book except if for a cheap rate.

And yes, I forgot to mention the voucher with 30% off at the restaurant which I used for the dinner and is always appreciated.
