AA (legacy US Airways) Airbus A321-200 "321"

The older legacy US Airways Airbus A321-200 is shown as "321" in AA schedules. (Newer legacy AA A321s are listed as "32B" as they have "Sharklet" wingtip devices installed, and include two class A321S and A321H ETOPS and three class A321T transcontinental versions.)

NOTE: in accordance with AA “Project Oasis” all A321-200s will be retrofitted between 2019 and 2021. Business / First cabins will use the seats found today in the AA A319, with reduced seat pitch and recline. MCE and MC will have the Rockwell Collins slimline Meridian seats with reduced pitch and recline. Lavatories will be ultra-slim Rockwell Collins Spacewall lavs. See Oasis: New seats & less pitch, WiFi IFE & power all 737 and A321 2019-21 for further information.

As conversion begins we will start a new thread, and you should be able to see which configuration a particular aircraft has by referencing the (unofficial) American Airlines Fleet Site here.

The legacy US Airways A321s are currently unmodified, though a few have been reupholstered, have new carpeting and bulkhead liners. These have less seat pitch and recline in the First cabin, no Main Cabin Extra seats other than the few with greater seat pitch (e.g. bulkhead / 5, Exit rows 9, 10, 22, and 23) and have neither seatback IFE nor at seat power provisions. They do have GoGo WiFi and free streaming audio and video entertainment for your WiFi capable devices..

Note 10 ABC (fixed armrests with deploying trays) or F, 23 A and F seem to be preferred by some members.

Please see AA to install same new seats in 737-800s and A321s but add more of them for information on the plan to install new B/E Aerospace Meridian slimline seats in a denser pattern and 30" seat pitch in Main Cabin in 2019. (We will dedicate a thread to the CIP / modified A321 when that aircraft becomes current with the AA fleet.)

The A320-321 refurbishment thread may be read here.

Based on the SFO-PHL leg it looks like it will overnight in SFO as it leaves at 8am. Hmmm.

Then it's not needed in the AM, PHX had gotten a A330 for a while, it arrived from CLT about 930pm and left about 11pm, was a nice ride while it lasted.

Obviously late to the party, but recently had my first experience on these sorry A/C on a PHL/LAX leg as result of a re-route.

Pitch, recline, IFE, power and Wifi all left a bad impression and will certainly never take one again. Everyone should continue to report to AA on the subject; I was credited 7,500 miles based on my report.

You should realize you most likely got the 7,500 miles due to your reroute (I assume some sort of IRROPs). People who book a LUS plane and then fly that plane without IRROPs aren't going to get any miles.

LUS 321. Why would someone pick 5C/D when row 10 is wide open?

Because not everyone has the same level of give a $#** that we do
Oh yea, also not everyone is able to sit in an exit row.

But as someone that routinely books late, and often sees row 5 filled while 10A & C are empty - i do appreciate them!

The other possibility I can think of is a very tight connection. The closer to the front, the better.

We've added a link

Please see AA to install same new seats in 737-800s and A321s but add more of them for information on the plan to install new B/E Aerospace Meridian slimline seats in a denser pattern and 30" seat pitch in Main Cabin in 2019.
to the Wikipost for those who wish to discuss the future (2019) seating planned for this aircraft. We will dedicate a thread to the CIP / modified A321 when that aircraft becomes current with the AA fleet.

I booked Mrs. pa3lsvt in F with miles for a trip to a wedding this spring, and booked myself in Y on a revenue ticket. I'm sitting in 5D right now, so I won't be too far back from her if I don't make the upgrade (and I'll be boarding with her in Group 1 so I should be OK getting overheads above row 5).

Normally I would go with 23F or 10A if I was travelling alone and was facing a wide open seat map.

According to the booking on my AA App I am due to fly (SAN-DFW) on an "Airbus Industrie A321 (Sharklets)" I understand from the wiki that the US Airways airframes do not have sharklets yet AA have used this longer designation and not simply "32B"
Can anyone enlighten me if I am likely to be on a newer or older A321? Thanks!

Just answered my own question by checking the flight on aa.com rather than the app and the flight is shown there as "32B-Airbus A321 (Sharklets)" which is somewhat clearer - Sorry for the interruption!

What is the row number for the first row of seats in coach?
