  • According to planemechanic on post #134, the WiFi system cuts out if the plane is below 10,000 feet and within China (minus HKG).

In-flight WiFi Troubleshooting for FAs
On the 747 there are two switches for this system located in the G2 galley, left side, by door 2LH. If both of these switches are NOT illuminated then the system should be operational. The FA's can toggle the system on and off using those switches, there really is no other troubleshooting that can be done in the air.

The switches are inside a compartment, not normally visible unless the compartment door is open.

I was on UA 895 ORD-HKG last week and it did not have WiFi.

Aside from the 747, when are the 777, 767, & 757 international config will be fitted with WiFi? Any pattern to this thing, or just purely random?

I think they are just focusing on the 747s (since there is limited IFE options in Y) and the A319/A320s.

Here I sit on N104UA LAX-SYD, Had to convince the crew it was off, when it was not on. Even tried to tell me to turn JavaScript on, Dude it's not even connected. Repeat cycle.

Over all I'm happy with the speeds, Down is 1-2Mbps, up almost Kbps, so no posting Twitter images

Edit blocked:
RDP/iTap
Skype, if you are logged in before dials test, then dies, but shows contacts online.

Works:
iTunes
Telnet/SSH
Web

Price wise, no I would not use it again, no need for me.

Would rather see a cheaper price MB restricted.

Edit 2 can we have AD's blocked on in flight wifi?

I was on SFO-HKG-SIN 2/18. They offered two tiers $11.99 for basic. It just mentioned for email, etc and $22.99 for up to 3 times faster. I asked the FA she mentioned its spotty and worst of all it won't work over Russia or China as those two countries won't allow it. That mean I believe over 1/2 the flight it's not available or it's blocked over those countries.

I doubt there's enough bandwidth for much streaming at all. Streaming is pretty bandwidth-hungry.

The streaming is coming off of on board servers, so bandwidth isn't a concern.

On N104UA 747 there is no streaming, just Internet access only.

Has anyone confirmed there is streaming currently available, apart from the PR saying there would be?

Once again, the plane doesn't fly a particular route, you have to look at the nose gear door at the gate or day before on united.com to see if it printed 8404.

When did N181UA get WiFi?

Maybe someone with a FlightAware sub could look it up with history.
