As I made the point above, I don't see pajamas in C as a "gimmick" at all!

After all, if the whole point of a true lay-flat seat in C is to allow the pax to sleep, and the reason why PJ's have traditionally been offered in F is because the F pax have seats that allow sleeping, shouldn't all C cabins offer pajamas, too?

Of course they're not...and they probably cost CA about $1 a pop!

QF also hands out pajamas in long haul J.

OP needn't be so anal about the name of wine why must he ? , etc, what I get from this report in particular was the FEELING AND IMPRESSION , which goes a long way in expressing OPs experience in a genuine and refreshing way ... And NOT UNNECESSARILY NITPICK .

Nitpick reporting tend to bore me and usually an extension of a writers huge ego and his oh so extensive experience in travel .

I suspect you went into your rant with too much baggage making your post very biased and looking for problems fr the sake of it.
nycflyer's questions are actually the most common questions OP are missing if you actually read, there wasn't any negativity or nitpicking at all. Like many people that had been to PEK or PVG, it is very well known that when boarding is called for F and C class, there are always a mad rush to the gate even people are travelling in Y. Some airlines don't serve pre-departure drinks, so the question is legit. China is famous for teas, so it is a good question if we know what kind of tea CA is serving in order to compare other chinese airlines like CX. All of these questions are used to determine if CA is indeed a good airline, not just showcasing the food and amenities, service is very important as well, as anyone's comment can be biased.

If a trip report is 100% positive, then it would only show it is generic, you can read those 100% positive reports on many travel magazines, where an particular airline may have actually paid someone to show the best and hide their worst from the general public. Just like I had seen a travel editor would describe a particular airline serving McDonald's egg mcmuffin sandwhich in first class as breakfast is nice and tasty, anyone have common sense would know there is something wrong with that person, kind of glorifying the worst kind of food being served in first class ! Even a 5 star airline still have its own flaws in some ways, no one is 100% perfect.

Why is there a need to give pjs in C class anyway ....
As previous posters mentioned, it is the exact same seat as the very common CO BusinessFirst seat, photos are widely available on other trip reports, united.com, just basically everywhere on the web, no need to waste more space.

I guess you had never flown long haul overnight flight, other than you, if the airline offer PJ, 100% of pax will take and change to PJ no matter they are intended to sleep or just lounging around, just like the same thing do you sleep in dress shirts and dress pants/jeans at home in your bed ?

An airline which provide PJ in C will definately be a big selling point, as not many airline do that due to cost. It had certain wow me to see PJ in C, and if you read other forums, you would see even people are comparing which airline has the best and worst PJ.

I just returned from PEK via HK to SYD on CX , my 3rd rather exhausting trip since mid Dec. In the Jan issue of discovery , the CX inflight mag , they had an article on how they are doing some campaign to donate used pjs left behind to charities . That prompted my comment on the pjs given on your CA in C . It's more from an environmental angle than anything else.
In any case I actually find it bothersome to change into pjs esp in the cramped WC .
I prefer to use the arrival lounges , where applicable or even airport loos , and bringing along a change of clothing usually from a t shirt .

Perhaps you should re read my comments again .
Tommyleos trip report is tommyleo's report , in his style and from his angle.
I am sure there will be some other trip reports on CA to CDG again with greater detail.

And I do think nycflyer's comments that the report was like an AD and boosterish was overly critical and negative, not to mention demanding for a list of predictable questions . ... Frankly I don't care if they address me by name or not after all they usually read that from some scrap paper ... But thats me.

No I absolutely enjoyed TLeos report as is , well except it would have been perfect if there was a bed pic.

Re the pic of bed , well irregardless of how the bed is described in words , I always prefer a good ole pic ....besides tommy had his pjs on , would be super nice if it also showed the bed too ....

i agree with you. i would love them just for the flight and then toss them when done....just like the pair of sox they give you...

I think the pax on the A side in the cabin shot has her eyes on you...

Oh the First cabin is AWESOME

I have nothing but rave reviews about the staff, service, and product of my Air China 777-300 in First. When you are departing PEK you can even do the special order chef prepared meals by calling the meal hotline!

(I am over 6 ft tall, lots of leg room!)

(this is a 10.1" asus tablet in front of the main screen, huge for an airplane.)

Some very good french wine (at least compared to US airline F standards)
I don't remember exactly which one this is, but they have a decent selection of red and white french wines, none of them just super costly, but solid choices.

And a chinese airlines take on Korean BBQ, it was not bad, not quite like Korean BBQ flavor I've had, but a very solid food.

I skipped a bunch then menu pics and all, I thought about making a trip report one time but lazed out, so I will hijack this one to reinforce all that was said and more

No particular "for web" sharpening technique was added. I just sharpened as usual. I'm glad you like the way it turned out.

No ill will intended, but every C service has limitations, it is good to hear both sides of the story in these reports.

While I was in first, I will answer too since you seem to want to get all into the picking of nits.

Was there any wait at check-in, how did the boarding process go?
It went, me then everyone else, and I as even late and got escorted right to the front of the mad masses cramming the gate.

What were you offered before takeoff, did they take and store your coat?
I was offered anything I'd like. I was also provided a hot towel upon boarding. They offered to store anything I needed.

Were you addressed by name?
Yes.
What were the choices for wine and champagne, what was the name of the Chinese wine that was fantastic?
Chinese wine that is fantastic? Are you kidding? that stuff is like drinking spoiled milk. They had FRENCH wines and a good selection of scotch and whisky and real no HFCS soda. They had one great wall red and white in the menu as a joke, or to placate the govt overseers.
Overall they had 10 French wines, 5 reds and 5 whites. Along with a 2002 Cattier Champagne Brut Premier and the aforementioned Greatwall red/white swill. Cognac was Camus VSOP, Glenfiddich Special reserve 15 year. yadda yadda a few more lesser things.

Did you try the tea menu, what were the choices?
Good tea, good options.
They had a tea menu in first as well, I didn't break out out so you'll have to do with what was in the dinner menu:

I had some of the oolong and the Pu'er, it was fine, I had better in Bejing at a tea shop but I'd expect as such.
How was the level of English, French of the cabin crew, were there French cabin staff?
English was ok, staff liked to practice on me, pilot stopped and talked to me multiple times. Staff went above and beyond in other ways

Which movies and shows were available on AVOD, how does the selection compare with SQ?
Good movie choices, I watched several subtitled chinese movies since the are better than most in the US, but they had a good selection, they also had some Korean and other languages and orgins.

Why is having a whole book on embroidery that great?

I can't answer this!
