Several museums in Washington also banned them recently.

I hate them. They were the bane of my existence on my trip to Indonesia last year. It's impossible to take an unimpeded photo when everyone has these sticks in the air all over the place. It seems to encourage them to take even more pictures

Who uses selfie sticks to take pictures indoors? That's silly. They should be used to take pictures in front of beautiful sections around town or nature shots. And nobody can ban the selfie stick outdoors.

Camera with WiFi + app on phone to control camera = problem solved. Plus it's not a crappy phone quality photo.

There is more to photography than selfies, despite my earlier highly sarcastic post to the contrary.

I have a stick for my gopro. I don't see a problem with selfie sticks. You see them a mile away. I'm unsure how you would get your eye poked out? Can't you just walk a foot in either direction of the person that has one?

I was just at the Peak in HK - didn't even notice anyone with them.

I hate asking people to take pictures.

You can get your eye poked out if you're walking to close to someone or not honoring someone's personal space. A lot of rude walkers in the world.

I favor another use that involves insertion. FT rules preclude being specific.

Evidently you have not seen people recklessly swinging their selfie sticks around in crowded places or recklessly extending their selfie sticks in a random direction when they first unpack them for use that day.

Are you sure you weren't walking to close to someone?

Boaracy is full of them, selfie sticks everywhere you look. I was really quite saddened to see only one other person have a real camera.

Very soon now the TSA may ban selfie-sticks claiming they can
be weaponized.

End of issue.

Yes. In fact, I often volunteer to take pictures of couples/families together, so that the photographer doesn't get left out of the picture.

I've been doing this for years, long before digital cameras.

What kind of friends do you have that you have to "prove" such things??
+1

My family and friends would never doubt that I have gone where I say I have gone.

But then I would never lie about it, either.

My favorite 'selfies' are the rare ones someone took without my knowledge, three of which ended up in promotional brochures.
