This morning my itinerary on UA.com has changed to a 747 for TG 922/12.

TG923 in mid December still on, FRA-BKK, now a 747 when checking Thai's web page directly (this was from an Air Canada reward booking), and it looks like it's the newer version of the two 747's.

Well, was cheating a bit...checking seatmap on Thai Air, I noticed that the main floor business class had 4 rows of window seats and it SEEMED to correspond to this version of the 747 on SeatGuru (v2) which notes it is the newer seats, whereas version 1 has 5 rows and uses the older seats. But you're correct, nothing will prevent a last minute change...

Version 1 does not exist. Seatguru consistently reports out of date (by years sometimes!) or wrong seatmaps for TG...it cannot be relied on. Check out the aircraft guide thread in this forum for accurate information. Seatguru does not even show the seat map for Thai's most recent refurb 747s, the one with the 9 seat F cabin.

Just hoping they're the new seats.

Which class? None of the 747s have 'new design' full flat seats in J. All 747 J seats are some variation of angled 'flat'...in the case of the refurbed 747s they're really not that flat at all! Many prefer the older J seat on the non refurbed 747s.

Uggh...hoping then that they have a change of heart again, maybe another A380 (unlikely) or A340 again?

No chance of an A380...and the A340 has the same seats as the older cabin 747 version.

Less and less so. LH has made BKK a two cabin route.

Well there is hardly any demand for F class on that route - they are not even able to fill 8 seats a day!

well, Thai's A380 seems to be booked fairly well in both premium compartments, F and C!

Not really - they are the only ones that give away mile seats and never charge regular fares for F and C but have to give the seats away at bottom sale prices - so they give away a lot of seats and are still not able to fill the compartments...
