Official 2013 Category Changes - effective 5 March 2013

We’re making our annual hotel Category adjustments for 2013 and would like to provide you with an advance look at the preliminary list of changes. We want to be sure you are able to maximize the use of your Starpoints, so please review the information to decide if it makes sense to redeem before or after the changes take place on March 5, 2013.

While our Categories remain the same, individual hotels may move between Categories each year. You can click here to see each Category’s Starpoints requirements.

This year the majority of our hotels have stayed the same, but we have a few more hotels moving up than down. To view a list of the upcoming changes, please see the attached PDF. Please note that a select number of additional hotels may be added to the list prior to March 5th.

When you’re ready to book, visit spg.com or contact one of our Customer Contact Centers.

Best regards,

Not to get too far ahead of myself, but this seems to be a relative win.

Assuming that it is in fact just a few more moving up than down.

Have just seen the PDF which is posted on Milepoint.

No new categories. More going up than down, but not the disaster zones from first glance that Hilton came out with yesterday.

Obviously won't be great news for some people, but it is the normal category re-setting rather than anything out of the ordinary.

Not sure about that. MP just has a file attachment function for posts. I suspect the technical problem alluded to earlier is getting the PDF hosted somewhere to share the address here.

How many compensation SPG points are due to me for having to suffer through these technical difficulties?

Well, I count 48 moving down and 209 moving up. A few might be a bit off, but still better than the other chains.

EDIT: 213 I think

Ermm. Nope! Just based on my quick glance it's 3/4 page moving down and 4.25 pages moving up! Most of the hotels I've stayed in the past 1-2 years are moving up!

While we wait, I created a quick Google spreadsheet from the PDF at MilePoint if anyone wants to pull it and drop it into Excel.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...mc&usp=sharing

EDIT: I missed a page. Adding to it now.

EDIT 2: Doc should be good although Lurker's link is up as well.
