The public offer from Chase and Southwest is only 40,000. This will also save you 25,000 UR points.
Good idea....but I'm at 5/24, unfortunately with Chase cards. I still may give it a shot.

Do rapid rewards points purchased from SWA count? I can get 40K points for $1100. I haven't used my $300 travel credit on my CSR this year, and then I have a $300 SWA gift card from last year. So, I'd spend $500 on 40K points to get CP.

Thoughts?

Will not work.

How long before you are under 5/24? And out of those 5 cards, are you an authorized user on any?

Bummer!

And 12 months until I am no longer 5/24. I got 4 chase personal, 1 chase business, and 1 Citi personal card last year. All in my name, no AU.

Perhaps I'd shoot for the SWA biz card and see if I can reallocate some credit from my existing ink +. Thoughts?

I appreciate your input.

Don't know if business cards fall under 5/24 or not. If they don't, this maybe your only shot. Maybe someone else can chime in. But whatever happens, I wouldn't transfer anything until you find out if you can get approved.

Chase Business cards count towards 5/24 EDIT but you can get the Marriott Business card if you are at or over 5/24

Are you married, serious GF/BF ? Is that person under 5/24 ? I'm not exactly sure what the rules are for transferring UR but maybe you could transfer the UR to that person and have them get one WN credit card to get CP

My wife and I trade off and get CP every two years

You do realize it would take almost 200,000 Hyatt points to accomplish this? If you transferred all your UR points you would still be considerably short. Also I believe there are limits to how many Hyatt points you can buy. This isn't even taking into consideration how much it would cost. But if you were allowed to buy that many, yeah it would work.

No offense, but if you were shooting for a companion pass, you, you should have had a better game plan.

Have you ever had the SPG personal and/0r Business cards ?

How about the Marriott Business card ? The Marriott Business does not count under 5/24

Those 3 cards could get you very close to 270K Marriott

We're thinking about doing this because we tend to get a lot of use out of the companion pass...but where the hell are we going to stay at a Marriott for seven nights??

For me, the SW points and the CP for two years alone is worth it. The 7 nights at a category 1-5 most likely will not happen. It will either go unused or I will bump it up later to a category 7 or 8 for use.

Sanity Check Please!

This year I've lost my Southwest (WN) Companion Pass (CP), the first time since 2002 or so. No business travel anymore and new obligations keep me tied and close to home.

Very lightly used over the years though, just 1 RT last year. But the heart misses what it doesn't have (ego) and there are always travel dreams.

With the last chance for a MR >WN CP travel package, it seems foolish not to pull the trigger based on these conclusions:

250,000 MR gets 7 nights (Cat 5) equivalent cost (6 x 25,000=) 150,000 leaving 100,000 for the WN CP piece. Downside is using the 7 nights within 2 years.

100,000 WN at 1.4 cents per equals $1,400 in airfare, $1,400/4 nights = $350 a night (a very highly unlikely Cat 5 redemption rate). So that seems like a bargain to me. Even a $1000 Amazon gift card is a possibility.

Plus getting 90% of the way towards an almost 2 year, 6 changes CP that is easily finished with CC spend?

Almost "free" ? What am I missing.

If it matters, I am overflushed with WN, MR and SPG points already...

Thanks for poking holes.

You are missing the low return on your spend from the Southwest Credit Card. Only transferring 100,000 is a little bit of a waste, it would be better to spend the extra 20,000 Marriott points and just earn the CP directly from the transferred points and use a card with a higher return than the Southwest credit card.

For instance the $10k spend on the SPG card would yield 10k SPG points which would convert to 30k Marriott points. Which would mean you come out 10k Marriott points and 10k Southwest points ahead.

If it came down to it, can one use the voucher for less than 7 nights and just forfeit the remainder?

Yes.

I think you can also give it to someone.

Remember you can extend the cert a year so you would have 2 years to use that 7 night stay. We are looking at FT Lauderdale in December 2018 for ours.
