Stayed one night here to end our honeymoon and got upgraded via Prive to the harbor view with balcony and that room has become my favorite hotel room in the world. Love the layout, the view, and the balcony. Love the area in the Harbor. Wife loved it, too. Loved the facilities and the various restaurants and bars. We put a nice dent in their Cloudy Bay Sauvignon blanc stock.

Last I was here, it was comparable to the PH Sydney. A smallish buffet spread that provided your typical western options, well presented and of high quality. Supplemented by your choice of an item and beverages from the a la carte menu.

A stunning stay in the Harbour City

A stunning stay in the Harbour City (24 Photos)

Park Hyatt Auckland

I've been following the PH AKL since its pre opening and finally had a chance to book it a few weeks ago.

I booked a high categroy Harbour View Room with Balcony via Prive. Unfortunately, I have now learnt that Prive upgrade confirmations over a weekend are an issue, because it is usually the Sales Director who is the contact so booking on a Friday for a Monday stay means your TA may not get confirmation.

My TA reached out and had a response of confirmation to the Rooftop Balcony Deluxe Room. I thought about arguing for a suite, however this room seems superior to the Park Suites.

Check In

Upon entering the hotel you are captivated by the local Maori art infused with modern design. While a different aesthetic, it's similar to how the PH VIE blends its Bank of Austria history with it's design.

Despite being during the FIFA WWC, we were checked in quickly. Agent explained all the benefits.

The lobby didn't feel full, perhaps because a FIFA Lounge had been constructed in one the meeting rooms.

Room

While the room is essentially a studio, the Balcony made a significance different to the stay. We left the doors open for most of the time and the Harbour view was gorgeous.

Every aspect of the room felt like it was thoughful and I was surprised that it didn't feel smaller.

Service

Service is what really impressed me here. I needed an over the counter medication a few hours before our flight. The Concierge, who I believe may have delgated to another front office worker, walked to one pharmacy and took a photo to confirm if the item was correct. I needed a different size so she, without question, went to another pharamacy and again confirmed via phone.

In a hotel at 100% occupacy with the FIFA Exec in house, I find this outstanding.

Dining

We had dinner at the bar and while the food was great, the cocktails were not. We didn't finish our drinks.

Breakfast was all  a vey high quality with a large buffet spread and A La Carte menu.

The Eggs Benedict and Iced Lattes were great.

Location

The location is far preferable to the Hilton which feels slightly removed. We walked to Skycity and other sights along the waterfront.

Overall

Overall, this is a great addition to PH in Australiasia and reflects NZ's true respect of Maori culture and tradition in into its society.

The hotel feels special and has a feeling of calm despite it being during the WWC and at 100%.

One might argue that a Glob booking Pirve should get a Suite, but given the standard is a Park Suite I was happy with the allocation. If retuning longer, I would book the Harbour View Suite outright.

A stunning stay in the Harbour City

I stayed recently in a rooftop harbor view balcony room (probably a few doors down from the room shown in the pictures above).
I really liked the hotel. Location was walkable to most things I was doing in Auckland, staff were very helpful and dinner in the lobby lounge and breakfast were both excellent. My satisfaction is partly based on having a rooftop room with the full balcony. I would not have been happy with one of the rooms on a lower floor that is surrounded by the building cladding. And of course the tub with the stunning view made my day.
There are some things about the hotel that were disappointing. The furnishings are already showing their age. There were massive stains on the banquette where I was seated in the lobby lounge. Same thing on the sofa area in the room. While I realize they can't replace the upholstery after every stain, these were really unsightly. I also don't understand the layout of the room with the toilet separated from the bathroom. Even if they wanted to keep the separate powder room, why not put it closer to the bathroom and the closet nearer the main entry! Finally, I had a lot of trouble with the light switches. They were not intuitive for me. I saw a guide to how to use them in the compendium....if you need to do that then you've selected technology that is far too complicated for a hotel.

Based on several trips service in NZ seems to be generally well-meaning but very lax/poor.

Why waste an evening at a Novotel and see nothing when you can have a luxury PH experience including dinner, drinks and a decent breakfast?

Yes. With the exception of body lotion, they are in large containers bolted to the wall in the shower. I wish they would have included additional toiletries for the bath.

What is the best/easiest public transport to get from the airport to this hotel or should I just Uber? The Hyatt website doesn't list any options. TIA.
