Flight Changes
Many changes have been made due to Etihad schedule changes. In some cases, connecting flights are being swapped to nonstops. Some have been able to get this changed back by calling Etihad, others have not. You may have to repeat call / HUCA to get it switched back.

Update 12/28/14: Etihad will honor the fare per Forbes article.

Suggestions for what to do in ...

AUH (Abu Dhabi) (Check Groupon):
Grand Mosque [wiki] [map]
Kayak the mangroves [trip advisor] [map]
Ferrari World [trip advisor] [map]
Dune bashing/camel ride [trip advisor]

Hotels:
Qsar al Sarab

CPT (Capetown):
Take cable car to top of Table Mountain
Drive the scenic drive to Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope
See Robben Island prison, home to Nelson Mandela for 18 years
V&A Waterfront
Hop-on-Hop Off Bus Cape town (brings you to all scenic landscapes of Cape town (incl Camps bay) w/o hassle and security concerns

JNB (Johannesburg):
Nelson Mandela Square (JNB) / also visit Butchers steak restaurant there
Guided tour to Soweto (JNB)

For JNB/CPT:
- use uber (safe and cheap) / if you travel to Sandton(JNB): use Gautrain from Airport. / review travel advise and do's/don'ts for traveling in JNB city.
- Tons of cheap flights btw CPT and JNB. Always use booking portals like orbitz, skyscanner, etc. to find good fares (for example on Kulula, BA, SAA, Mango, etc.)

MNL (Manila):
Ask on FT (in Destinations) - There are too many islands and beaches in the Philippines to list here.
If you fancy another destination:
$120 R/T to SIN
$175 R/T to HKG or 7500 Avios
Almost all of Asia is under $200 with LCCs

I just received this from Vayama:

We have received information from our airline partners indicating their need to cancel or change one or more of the flights you booked with Vayama. These changes are initiated by the airlines, not Vayama. The airlines has given protection to re-accommodate your travel needs by offering alternative flight as close to the original times booked as possible.

I was ORD-DUB//DUB-AUH, AUH-DUB-ORD with a week in DUB and a weekend in AUH, and just a connection in DUB on the return.

Their new proposed itinerary preserves the stopover, but not the layover. They'll give me the AA codeshare from ORD-DUB, but put me on the nonstop on the return.

Needless to say, I'll take it...

Cheers

Anyone know how it would be possible to try to purchase the upgrade for F or how to get F after you have a bid accepted for the J product.

Am I reading my ticket correctly and only 1 7-kg piece of carry-on luggage is allowed? Is anyone carrying on a standard 21" rollerboard and a handbag? Alternatively, can I check 2 bags for free up to the stated 23kg? This seems like an incredibly basic question, which was muddled (for me) by the 1 carry-on bag verbiage.

Economy Class

Checked-in luggage
• 2 bags – maximum for each bag 23kg (50lbs) Maximum total weight of 46kg (100lbs)
• Each item must not exceed 23kg (50lbs) and maximum total dimensions of 158 cm
(for example, 50 x 70 by x 38)

Carry-on luggage
• 1 bag, total of 7kg
• Each item must not exceed maximum total dimensions of 115 cm (for example, 40cm x 54cm x 21cm)

Unfortunately, it's not possible to upgrade from Y to F. It's detailed in their FAQ and/or T&C.

Etihad flights from AUH to TXL(Berlin) and on to ORD from TXL are on Air Berlin Airbus 330-200's. Two questions.

What FF account(s) can Air Berlin miles be credited to under this circumstance (Economy EY booked, AB metal) and will the credit be 100% of the miles flown?

How does the Air Berlin 330-200 compare with the Etihad 777-300ER in economy? The comments on Seat Guru were not great for either.

The promotion only started four days ago.

Promotion seems based on date you fly, not date you ticket.

Has anyone been getting emails from Etihad on itinerary updates? I just received an email this morning and nothing on my itinerary was changed. What gives?

I received one. It may have just been minor changes to the departure or arrival time of one of the flights, which is what mine was for.

Yup, looked at it closely and saw that one of my flights is now delayed by 10 mins......

Seeing it was booked on Etihad you go by there rules. You only happen to be flying on AB, so no AB rules apply. You would get what ever deal EY and AB have.

See below for the chart from the EY website.

Earn Etihad Guest Miles with airberlin

You can now earn Etihad Guest Miles when traveling with airberlin and NIKI. Simply quote your Etihad Guest Number when making a booking with airberlin or NIKI and remember to present your Etihad Guest Card at check-in. The number of miles earned will depend on the class of booking as shown below.

Flights eligible for Accrual

Flights marketed and operated by airberlin and NIKI.
airberlin and NIKI code share flights which are operated by those carriers.

Cabin Class Earned Miles
Business J, C, D, I 150%
Economy Y, B, H, K 100%
Discounted Economy M, L, V, S 50%
Discounted Economy N, Q, O, G 25%

The strange part is when I go to the AirBerlin website for partners when I click on EY it directs me to the EY website?

I am still trying to decide if I have any use for Etihad miles. The double points offer makes them worth considering as that would bring my points up to 100% if I accumulate them to Etihad. I still will have to find a use for them in the future to make it a good deal for me.

I planned using my Asiana FF program for Etihad points, as a partner I get 50% of the miles flown on Etihad metal in Economy and I have quite a few Asiana Club miles already, but I don't think I will get anything on Air Berlin metal, even booked through Etihad, as Asiana credits miles by operating carrier and not booking carrier. I can also use AA points, so if my Air Berlin segments credited to AA that would be a consideration, but I found the language confusing as to whether this is possible on an EY booking and at what rate (50%, 100%) the credit to AA would be.

Yes it's not real clear. They also make exceptions for laptops, books and other items you may use on the flight?
The EY forum has more information from people who have already traveled on EY and reported experiences.
