I believe this is the first time the free nights are cat 1-5 - previously only cat 1-4. The "unexpected bonus" offer for this summer was for cat 1-4.
Please correct me if I am wrong about this.
It's about time they upped the cat for free nights as their categories are skyrocketing! Even cat 5 doesn't get you much anymore (The Ren in BCN went from 5 to 7).

25K plus 15K only adds up to 40K. Others have gotten 50K offers. My unexpected bonus summer promo only offered a maximum of 35K points.

My "Unexpected Bonus" promotion was for cat. 1-5 certs. As were other's offers, as noted in: Summer 2013 Megabonus ("Unexpected Bonus").

This blog post succinctly lists the different offers that were made: http://boardingarea.com/loyaltytrave...-15-sep-2-2013

Granted, I am only Gold, but I only received the offer for up to 3 cat 1-4 after each 2nd paid night.
No offer of cat 5.

I've had the Cat. 1-5 cert offer for a few promos now -at least the last 2 Megabonuses, and this summer's Unexpected Bonus promo. And again this time around - which means more hotel-hopping for me (and, bless her heart, MamaTwick is more than happy to go along for the certs )

You're totally right. I got confused between both offers.

Below is the copy and paste of my offer. I just signed up for a Platinum Challenge last week as well. Each year I have a lot of fall travel and book it well in advance. I think this has always had an impact on my offer as they probably track nights already booked and use the promo to push you to get a few more nights. This year I have yet to book most my travel already and I think that might be why I got this offer. Just a theory of sorts.

I would call the gold line and ask them to change to Cat 1-5 (two maximum). Cat 1-4 is really useless right now.
