Possible, but unlikely. These are still easily liquidated through several other, cheaper channels.

Probably had more to do with the fact that this promotion occurred during the week leading up to the Christmas holiday weekend and ended on the 24th.

I just don't consider it worth the effort any more.

I know the thread title spells out Visa/MC but this morning on my MS run at OD I saw a sign offering an instant $10 on AMEX gift cards $150 and up.
Fine prints says it's a limit of 1 per customer.

Went to OfficeMax and saw the signage for the deal. Sale goes to 1/21/17. Bought two $200 Amex gift cards (two separate transactions).

How do you plan on liquidating those?

Unfortunately, just everyday spend.
Thanks for informing us of the sale!

I went to an OfficeDepot today and tried to buy a variable with $150 on it. It rang up with the $10 off but then register said it was cash only.

AGCs can also be drained @ Lowe's that sell FBs. Easy to figure out how to keep the $ rolling. If your Lowe's is one of those with cashiers that know how to do split tender, it's so easy to drain several AGCs to 5Bs and pay the fees with a 2x card. With your 5Bs, buy DE/GE/SE which you can drain to MOs at WM. This is easy for those who have Staples and Lowe's with next door WMs. If your stores are far apart, this may be inconvinient and not worth it even if this method is scale-able.

Overall, each one determines if anything is worth doing FOR them.

Previously, up until as recently as the December 2016 $15 off $300 Visa sale, a message would show up on the screen telling the cashier that Office Depot gift cards and merchandise credits could not be used to pay. Now, this message has been replaced by one saying that all Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Serve variable-load cards are CASH ONLY ("CASH ONLY" is literally in all capital letters on the message).

I am not sure if the POS system would still accept credit if the cashier disregarded the message, since the cashier at my local store would not allow me to try.
