Not done this kind of connection in MUC before, so a little advise would be great.
I'm planning my flights such that I arrive on Emirates in MUC at 8.35 and leave on Air Dolomiti (separate ticket) to FLR at 11.20.
I will have luggage, so I know I will have to collect and check them again. I've read that the walk from Terminal 1 to 2 is 10 mins, is this accurate? I'm guessing this is a walk outdoors? Are there free baggage carts on arrival in T1?
I do not like to do this kind of connection myself due to the risks but for a variety of reasons, this seems like my best option.

Yes there are baggage carts upon arrival for free.
Anyway, should you be able to check your bags through you can take the shuttle bus which connects T1 and T2 every 15 or 20 minutes

You will have plenty of time to make the connection. It is a 10-15 min walk from T1 to T2 with a baggage cart. No real outdoor walk, just a few meters outside walk between the doors of T1/Munich Airport Center and T2.

Lufthansa Connection in Munich, Enough Time?
I am considering Lufthansa flight from Los Angeles to Dubrovnik, Croatia. However, there is a one hour stop in Munich for change of planes. Is that enough time? Will I need to go through customs for the plane change?
Thanks in advance for any learned advice.

You will not have to go through immigration/customs, since Croatia is not in Schengen.
Munich is very efficient -- in my opinion the best big airport in the world -- so if your inbound is ontime you should be fine.

What are the Criteria for a Direct Transfer?
I had booked a pretty tight MUC connection: Arriving from JFK and departing to CGN with 45 mins in between, all in C class.
Now the flight from JFK actually touched down 13 mins late and by the time I exited the plane is was 20 mins after scheduled arrival. Based on prior experience I had hoped they would have arranged a direct transfer to the apron position of my flight to Cologne - not the case.
So I ran through the terminal - all went smooth with automatic passport control etc - but the CGN gate was at the end of the G level so I arrived 2 mins after they had closed the flight which they do 12 mins before departure time for apron positions - so the gate agent said. So I had to wait for 3 hours for the next flight.
Are there any firm criteria for when they arrange direct transfers? Class, status and remaining connection time come to mind. Anybody can shed some light on this?

Other factors I've heard of are: number of passengers connecting to the same flight, likelihood of making the connection, whether there are later flights on the day, and naturally the availability of vehicles.

Probably a worthless report as most of us already know what a fantastic airport MUC is, but I find myself transiting there most weekends because of my UK-PL-UK commute and this is something (with that frequency) I would probably not be doing in any other airport. That said, yet another incredibly smooth transfer yesterday: arrived perfectly on time on LH2513 docking at gate H38, with my next flight scheduled to leave from G24 (meaning a good 5 minutes walk plus passport control which, at that time, could get quite tricky because of all those passengers connecting from incoming morning flights) at 11AM: I got off the plane at 10:30AM and made it to the new gate when LH1642 was just starting boarding, with D-AEMD docked at the gate!

I am connecting through Munich next week for CLJ-MUC-DUB. I was hoping to check out the new terminal but saw that today for the CLJ-MUC flight there was a bus gate and yesterday an H gate. Anyone know if bus gates remain in operation? Does it have something to do with the flight being operated by AirDolomiti?
