This thread is for the World of Hyatt Globalist members to share the experience of room (suite in particular) upgrades members receive at various Hyatt hotels and resorts. This is not about the suite upgrade by using TSU (Tier Suite Upgrade) certificate. It is discussed in a separate thread. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-world-hyatt/1825293-world-hyatt-globalist-experiences-tier-suite-upgrades.html

All WoH members receive two (2) Tier Suite Upgrade (Suite Upgrade Awards) certificates by reaching 50 Qualifying Nights or 80,000 Base Points Milestone Awards. By reaching 60 Qualifying Nights or 100,000 Base Points Milestone Awards, all WoH members also received two (2) additional Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) to a total of four (2) Suite Upgrade Awards (TSUs) each year. By earning the last Milestone Awards, the WoH member also reaches WoH Globalist status and receive other elite benefits.

By using the TSU awards, the suite upgrade (to standard suite) can be confirmed at booking or any other time before check-in. Most likely only standard suite can be confirmed. Without using the TSU awards, room upgrade normally can't be confirmed.

According to WoH membership terms, https://help.hyatt.com/en/hyatt-terms/world-of-hyatt-terms.html?icamp=woh_benefitbadges_terms#/VC

(c) Best Room Available: Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at Hyatt hotels and resorts, including Standard Suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the Member. Best-room-available benefit includes only Standard Suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Premium, Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than Standard Suites are not included in this benefit. Not valid at Caption by Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Destination Residences, or Hyatt Residence Club hotels and resorts.

Some Hyatt properties will automatically recognize WoH elite status and inform member about the room upgrade opportunity. If room upgrade is not mentioned at check-in time, then member needs to request at check-in time or any other time before room is assigned.

Small Luxury Hotels does not recognize most of the WoH elite benefits. So often, room (suite) upgrade is declined.

Tokyo:

PHT: Park suite for 2 days. No prompting.
HRT: King room, park view for 5 days. No upgrade. That's the way they usually are.

I think some properties are getting ridiculous. Since when is an oceanview view, same category considered best room available? I know it's the vacation period time here in Korea and they can sell their upper category rooms and suites but still thanks a lot for rewarding loyalty.

Or how about the way they are reclassifying formerly "large" rooms as "suites" at many properties in order to devalue the "benefit".

This too. Stings when this happens at a property we frequent constantly.

The point of a free upgrade is getting you into a better room when it would remain empty, not blocking it for you when they can sell it.

Why would you expect a property to lose revenue during peak times?

I disagree with this.

Loyalty is a two-way street and upgrades shouldn't happen only when it's convenient for the hotel.

Why should they lose revenue when their loyalty program says they should upgrade me? The same reason I chose their hotel (presumably many times) over another when it came to spending my money.

This is 110% true. There is absolutely no defense for not honoring benefits. They cannot (or should not) get to choose when the loyalty program benefits them. They get tons of revenue from tons of people like me, who often go to a specific place because there is a Hyatt to choose. So giving me a better room because that is part of the explicit agreement we have between us as company and customer via their loyalty program is expected.

awful experience here. Room not ready when checking in. Was before noon, so no issue with that.

Checked back later and still not ready. Asked for room with 2 beds and/or if an upgrade would be available. Said To me that I booked King ... and that is what I get. With water and breakfast.
hotel is anyway fully booked.... checked the app and all categories were for sale for my duration.

Started talking german with my wife and thats when I guess the Front Office Mgr came and said the agent should assign a specific room.
It was big, not a suite, with 2 beds. And suddenly available.
unbelievable how the agent simply lied to me and did not want to do anything for me. She was also very unfriendly.

I have a corp. rate that allows 6 PM day of arrival cancel so recently, just to prove my point to the front desk manager, I booked a room they claimed that they didn't have and, miraculously, the reservation was confirmed.

When confronted by this incontrovertible evidence, I was surprised by his incredulous reaction-I was treated like a scammer. I checked-in to the originally booked room and cancelled the "unavailable" upgrade room.

The next day, the manager contacted me and said that it had all been a mistake and that there actually were no higher category rooms available. He said the inventory management system had made a mistake-sure it had.

They lost revenue when I didn't take their "upgrade" and cancelled the reservation within the given period. PH Busan gets a lot of revenue from us for their outlets, spa, etc and I would expect the same treatment we always receive even at non peak times. Sure, they can sell the suite they usually give us but at the cost of customer loyalty and future considerations.

Yeah this time it's not Hyatt's IT problems.

all rooms available in the app for my duration. I presume that suite does not have 2 beds.

Hyatt Centric Park City

Excellent Globalist recognition.

July during Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City and most hotels are sold out, 4 nights on lowest AAA rate.

Upgraded at check in (after 11 PM) to 2 bedroom 1000+ft2 unit. I didn't know what to do with all that space.

Grand Hyatt Berlin: 1 night, early arrival at 9.30am.

Booked a standard room and upgraded to a suite using 6,000 points and received their Daimler Suite. Have stayed in the Maybach Suite before and like the Daimler Suite better.

No welcome note or letter.
