Indeed, we have checkied in at 1pm, or even a little bit before 1pm, on numerous occasions.

I saw that too... and was a bit surprised that they use 1pm on weekdays. Most places use 2 or 3pm.

This is where the Diamond late check-out might be a bit of a problem. Although I'm not really sure how many actually use that with any regularity. I know I hardly use it myself, bit I do appreciate it on some occasions.

I had no problem using the late check-out benefit and we needed our luggage stored till 20:00 which they did without any problems.

I was thinking more that if people were actually using their late check-out that might make some 1pm check-ins a bit difficult.

Great hotel and we don't mind the walk from Shinjuku station either.

However, can't say that I'm overly impressed with management. We had to wait until 3:30pm to check into our room (1pm is check-in and it's horrible waiting around after long flight). When we got into the room it STANK of cigarette smoke and the person who escorted us to our room agreed (we requested a non-smoking room, which apparently it is, but whoever stayed in here last was chain smoking).

They came and sprayed the room but the smell is still very strong. I then had them bring in an ioniser which made it better for a couple of hours but the smell is still very strong and you notice it particularly when re-entering the room. They left the spray so I go around every so often spraying the room.

I expressed my dissatisfaction with the late check-in and the smokey room issue a couple of times but haven't heard anything from management or any token of appreciation for the inconvenience. Understand they are at capacity at the moment, but other hotels in this calibre would have handled this better.

FYI - I've never complained about a smokey room in my hundreds of nights of travel. So I'm definitely not a serial complainer or nit picker.
I had a non-smoking room which was great but the humidifier they brought into the room made the room smell slightly of smoke.

Just an FYI/heads up in case anyone wants to use their humidifier.

Their humidifiers are the kind that heats the water and converts it to steam. So there will be water vapor smoke. I use a humidifier or two every time I stay and never had it smell of tobacco, is that what you mean?

A lot of the time I can't figure out the Japanese on the controls and like every other appliance in Japan, there are way more controls than seem to be necessary.

Hi all,

My wife and I have an award stay (current rates) at the PHT for 5 nights in December. It will be my first time in Tokyo and her second. I do have Diamond status.

We're fans of Andaz and were thinking about switching either entirely or partially over to the Andaz Tokyo. I know nobody's reported on this property yet, but what are the thoughts of the PHT 'regulars' on the Andaz?

Just FYI, nobody can report on Andaz Tokyo as it hasn't been opened yet. Scheduled for June 2014 as far as I know.

Opening Night at the Andaz is June 11th. I think you still have plenty of time to wait for the reviews to come in.

Andaz will still be brand spanking new for good or bad by then. If it were me, I'd take the Andaz just for a change of pace and routine.

You mean that "change of pace and routine" on a first and second visit to Tokyo?

That and the fact that the PHT room decor is really, really outdated. It's still good but if you care about how your room looks, you may be disappointed with the PHT

Why does "old" equal "bad"?

Not everything has to be cutting edge chic to exceed expectations.
