List of current discounts on the Airport Express

Free travel for children (aged 3-11) and half-price travel for seniors (aged 65+)

From 16 December 2022 to 29 January 2023, Child Octopus card holders enjoy free journeys, while Elder Octopus / JoyYou Card holders enjoy a 50% discount on the Octopus fare. Details available on the MTR website.

Up to 40% off single and return tickets

When purchased in advance online at kkday (https://www.kkday.com/en/product/2425) and you will get a e-redemption voucher QR Code 1-2 hours later, or...
When purchased online from Klook (https://www.klook.com/activity/71-ai...ess-hong-kong/). After payment, you will immediately receive a confirmation email and e-redemption voucher (which is valid for 1 month from the order date), and can use it immediately (as of May 2019)
Hong Kong, Kowloon and Tsing Yi station tickets are available at a discount of around 40% off.

Alternatively, if you pay with an HSBC credit card and the total order amount is at least USD50, you will receive an additional USD5 discount by entering the promo code HSBC18US5 (first order only). For details, see https://www.homeandaway.hsbc.com/1/2...looktravel/all

Note: if you purchase multiple one-way tickets in a single transaction on Klook, you will only be issued a single voucher. If you exchange that voucher, you will receive multiple tickets, valid on the day of exchange only.

If you want to purchase multiple tickets for use on different days (say several different trips) you have to buy single one-way tickets in separate Klook transactions, receive several separate vouchers, and exchange those vouchers on your respective travel dates.

30% off single and return tickets

Use promotion code mtronline when buying a single or return ticket on the MTR website or MTR mobile app between 16 December 2019 and 5 January 2020. Tickets are valid for 92 days from the date of purchase. For details, see http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/main/ael_winter.html

50% off an Airport Express single journey to the airport

If using an Octopus card, a 50% discount is available on a single journey fare to the airport if taking the taxi (taxi fare of HKD60 or more) to Kowloon or Tsing Yi station (but not Hong Kong station): http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/tickets/ael_taxi.html

Free connection on the MTR

http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/se...nnections.html

30% off single and return tickets

When purchased from Hong Thai travel agency either online (http://www.hongthai.com/tc/Promotion...Promotion.html) or in person at a branch office (list of addresses: http://www.hongthai.com/tc/templates/BranchListAll.html).

If purchasing online, the "confirmation note" (which you must print out and show at the Airport Express station ticket counter to get your ticket) will be e-mailed to you 12-24 hours after you make your purchase on the Hong Thai website. The "confirmation note" is valid for 60 days from the order date. Visa, MasterCard, UnionPay and American Express are accepted payment methods for online orders.

If purchasing in person at a branch office, only cash/EPS is accepted. You will receive a paper voucher valid until 31 December 2018 which must be exchanged for a ticket at the Airport Express station ticket counter.

Confirmation Note is redeemed at Airport Express Customer Service Centre at Tsing Yi/Kowloon/Hong Kong stations; not HKIA station. When flying into HKIA, head directly to Airport Express train. Do not stop at HKIA Airport Express Customer Service Centre. Once you arrive at Tsing Yi/Kowloon/Hong Kong, redeem at Customer Service Centre for ticket to exit the turnstile.

Is there a place I can buy a card at the airport? Last time, I seem to recall just getting on the AE and then paying when I arrived.
Does the RT work if I goto Central, but return from kowloon?
I think I kept my old octopus card from over a year ago as a souvenir. If I recall the balance was -30HKD.
If you have an old Octapus then just top it up. They allow negative balance as there was a deposit on the card already. You can top it up at AEx service counter or 7-11 at HKIA.

In order for the same day return you have to use a standrad Octapus card and doot your way to get the same day return discount. I had the free ride applied when I make the return trip to HKIA from Kowloon after riding to Hong Kong. I know there was a small charge if your first trip was the shorter HKIA Kowloon segment and then followed by Hong Kong to HKIA judging by my Octapus balance when the card was read.

Thanks
The old Octopus card was a AE roundtrip tourist octupus card. Can I still top it up and get the same-day discount?
I will be travelling with a friend who has no card. I assume a new standard one can be obtained at the AE counter or 711 as well? What is the minimum needed? $50 balance? $50 deposit + $50 = $100 RT? What do you mean "doot your way to get the same day return discount"

"doot" is the local expression for using the Octapus card for payment. It is the sound emitted by the reader acknowledging a positive read and payment deducted.

As to discount for your specific card you should veck with Aex at the HK MTR website.

7-11 only does top up. For a new card your might need to get it an an MTR service counter like the HKIA AEx one.

I never heard of same-day return on Octopus being 24-hours. Should be till end of service on that day. Was that your own experience?

For Airport Express Same-Day Free Return Trip, it has to be from first train to last train in same operation day. There's no waiver or anything other special treatment for Octopus.

Beside from discount from travel agents, If you are staying in HK overnight and heading back to airport next day, you should

1. Get companion discount airport express tickets (if travel in group of 2, 3 or 4)
http://mtr.com.hk/en/customer/ticket..._4persons.html

2. Get a return ticket of airport express
http://mtr.com.hk/en/customer/tickets/tf_index.html

Have just received an email from Hong Thai and they are running a 35% discount until the end of the year.

http://ebuy.hongthai.com/tc/airexpress.html

Have called 2108 8111 to find out when the vouchers will expire, the guy who answered the phone wasn't sure and wasn't willing to help.

Would be good if anyone who has purchased any vouchers (in person or via the link) recently can advise of the expiry date.

Thanks for the info, Iamhappy! I've updated the wiki to reflect the 35% discount.

When I bought the vouchers in person from Hong Thai last month, they had an expiry date of 31 December 2015.

I would assume, the vouchers may vary from branch to branch too.

When I last purchased in person with 40% off discount I knew the vouchers would have an expiry date of 31 December 2015. The discount has dropped by 5%, hence I am wondering if they are still clearing old stock or the vouchers are valid to sometime in 2016 (hence the lesser discount).

I guess the branches will be getting rid of the ones which will expiry at the end of this year, before selling the ones expirying in 2016 at 35% off.

Does anyone know approximately how long it *actually* takes to receive the Hong Thai confirmation email? Or is it ok to just show the confirmation on your phone, without a paper printout? I ask because I didn't think to book until almost leaving home, so may not get the confirmation in a place where I can print it out...

I purchased in mid-November (around 3pm HKG time). I received order confirmation email almost immediately. It took another 11 minutes to receive the PDF confirmation that needs to be presented to the service center. The confirmation does say:
Please bring along and present this Confirmation Note in person to collect the ticket(s) at the following Airport Express Customer
Service Centre* on or before the above redemption deadline.

It does not contain a barcode - only reference numbers for the booking. I have not yet travelled, so I do not know if they need a paper copy.

Thank you! And question answered firsthand also -- I received the PDF confirmation about 1.5 hour after booking online. Maybe it relies on it being business hours in HK for some manual process? Anyway, problem solved. But I will try to remember to ask at the AE desk whether the hard copy is actually required, out of interest.

For these purchases the hard copy is required for redemption of a ticket card which you use like a regular octapus.

The barcode scanning is for direct purchase from the MTR website and you scan that code in lieu of tapping with a card.

I have just been told at the HK airport that when you pick up the Hong Thai ticket, you must use it the day of. Not so convenient...
