In theory, 95k each way is still the low rate to Australia or New Zealand, but you are the first person I've seen on FT who said he actually managed to book it. Most people say it's 110k as a practical matter.

SLC-CDG return LHR-SLC 90k miles

i had originally booked an award ticket for May flying SLC direct to CDG and returning LHR direct to SLC. Coach ticket was 80k miles all on DL metal. Last Friday I saw roundtrip business class on same itinerary for 90k miles. Cost 150.00 to cancel Coach ticket redeposit miles and book J but 150 well worth it for 9 hour flight. After I completed my booking award tickets jumped back to 180k for Business class. Great deal

SEA-LHR-SVO 70k business

SEA-LHR on new Virgin 787 service from SEA connecting to SU 330 to Moscow for 70k in business. I had to call reservations to get this ticketed, because delta.com does not find any connections to/from VS flights in LHR.

Clarified: You can book VS online, but VS <=> SkyTeam connections in LHR do not show up. I found availability for individual flights online and called to get them ticketed in a single award.

Super excited to try new VS service from SEA and have flat bed all the way to Moscow. I think it's the only transatlantic route with true business class seat between SEA and SVO/DME. And I've taken this SU flight from LHR to SVO before and it was wonderful.

Ah never occurred to me to call to ask about VS awards.

But what is the fee on that J award?

There is no fee on VS J, but on my ticket there is because of SU.
The total for SEA-LHR-SVO was $87 SU surcharge + $63 taxes = $150 and 70k miles.

You can get VS J online, but if you need connection VS <=> SkyTeam in LHR, you need to call.

had to rebook some friends' tickets due to family emergency but was able to still get them what they what wanted:

DTW-EWR (21 hours in NYC)
JFK-LHR (23 hours in London)
LHR-AMS-SVO (destination)

LED-CDG (23 hours in Paris)
CDG-LHR-JFK-DTW

140k + $339 in taxes x2, all in F/J, and including 2 Dreamliners (JFK-LHR on VS and CDG-LHR on AF). A very helpful agent in SIN was able to put this together segment by segment. Took about 1.5 hours but he was patient and great.

Congrats. Was LHR-SVO not available on SU nonstop or you intentionally booked KL? I found LHR-SVO availability in J excellent and I think SU has one the best business class seat / service on intra-European flights. You can get flat bed on A-330 departing LHR daily @ 1:30pm, other flights are 319/320 with seats similar to US domestic business class, still but beats heck out of KL.

JFK-SVO nonstop is also a good option on SU unless 23 hour stops in LHR/CDG are planned.

I have rarely booked award tickets on any airline for less than the "published" low level redemption but recently booked 6 round trips for 75k each for BOS-CUN in Y on Delta. My whole family traveled on Dec 26 and Jan 1 on the seasonal non-stop flight. I looked nearly every day for 6 months and was ready to pay cash if the price came down to a reasonable level. Y was over $2,000 on this route for these extremely high demand days and never came down. So basically I spent 450k in miles instead of $12k in cash. This was 2.67 cents per mile and a good redemption in my mind. BTW, both flights went out completely full.

PDX - PLS for 22K round trip per person. Ticket price was 850 bucks. I finally found a value in a skymile since my last redemption going to Australia.

Great find. Another option for J is SEA-DXB-DME on EK (though it's not bookable as a DL award of course).

SVO-TFS on Aeroflot

Moscow to Tenerife on SU for 25K and $83 taxes each way in business class. Its a 7+ hour flight with lie flat seat. Probably one of the best value J awards.

Direct flight?

Must be a lot of demand for people wanting to escape the cold.
