Another potential option, especially anyone based on the west coast of the USA is to use avios to fly to/from HNL and then use 65,000 AA miles to go from HNL-BNE on Hawaiian Business class. It certainly wouldn’t be as good as other options mentioned, but they have updated their business class with lie flat seats on the A330 and award availability is wide open. It might be good for someone wanting to spend an overnight in Honolulu on the way and it’s kind of a backup option in my mind if I'm able to go and can't find anything else available.

With what is going on with AA and QR/EY. I'm on the lookout for a fun multi award routing to burn some AA and AS miles

Put rxgeek+1 down as Platinum. We had a great time in Newcastle and then stayed with relatives in Maroochydore. We're very excited to go back!

Found a J award on AA for LAX-SYD. I will now upgrade to Platinum
I also found lots of J awards on AA for LAX-AKL, may be useful especially for those planning to visit New Zealand.
Last year was fun in Newcastle, as well as my subsequent adventures in Sydney and New Zealand. Looking forward to go back.
