MCI BBQ DO V - April 30 - May 2, 2010

It's time for another BBQ DO!! I thought we would do this one a little later in April so it can warm up in KC. Thisyear will be amazing!!! 33 confirmed guests to date. By far, the biggest DO we have ever had. AND....we get to celebrate the engagement of FlyinHawaiian and Calcifer who met at last years DO...

As we have done in years past, the festivities will include a large amount of BBQ from the best places that KC has to offer:

-Oklahoma Joe's (inside the Diamond Shamrock gas station)--Mission Road---This one is on the Kansas side.

www.oklahomajoesbbq.com

-LC's (a new favorite of many)

-Arthur Bryant's and Gates (the Originals) on Brooklyn Avenue

www.arthurbryantsbbq.com
www.gatesbbq.com

-Fiorella's Jack Stack (a Friday Night Tradition)---FreightHouse (in the Crossroads Art District)
www.jackstackbbq.com

-Big T's (new this year. I live here and I havent even been to this place yet. They don;t have a website, but the reviews on the internet are excellent.)

I will post the schedule as we get into early 2010, but rest assured it will include copious amounts of the best BBQ in the world!!

I want this years DO to be the best we have ever had!!

We will keep the schedule the same as we have in years past:

FRIDAY:

HAPPY HOUR AT THE CROSSROADS:

5-8pm

-City Tavern (recently closed)
-Lydia's
-Jack Stack

After the extended happy hour we will meat..uhh..I mean..meet for dinner between 8-9pm at Fiorella's Jack Stack in the Crossroads District. This dinner has worked pretty well with separate checks so I think we will go with that gain this year.

FRIDAY NIGHT ATTENDEES- (29):

SATURDAY:

LUNCH: 12pm -- Oklahoma Joes

MID AFTERNOON SNACK--3-4pm--- LC's / Big T's

DINNER - 7pm---Gates / Arthur Bryants

The times are tentative and can be changed. I like to give everybody time to explore the city at leisure for a bit on Saturday. In the past, people have gone to the Nelson Atkins Art Museum, Negro Leagues Museum, Airline Musuem at the Downtown Airport.

SUNDAY:

Usually Sunday is at your leisure. However, if anyone has a late flight on Sunday and wants to eat more bbq, I am always game for that.

Rob, it's hard for me to image anything topping last year's Do, but I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Can I throw Big T's BBQ into the suggestion box, please? I believe we heard mention of this place while we were making the rounds and it sounded like it was worth a look (and taste).

Of course we can! And we should be able to do it right after LC's. I'm thinking that we may only do Arthur Bryants OR Gates, not both this year.

Fingers crossed, those dates should work for me--please count me in!

My goal for 2010: eat more ribs, and try some chili.

Oklahoma Jo's, LC's for sure. I could skip Gates forever, and would give up Bryant's in order to try a new place. Still like the Friday dinner at Jack's Stack, but plan to use extreme caution at the happy hour next door

Wasn't it those two guys from the BBQ list (Bill, like a $100 bill and his buddy) who picked LC's a few years ago? Oddly they also liked Famous Dave's.

I just remember standing around in LC's waiting for the second carload of FTers reading the anti-gay literature and getting looks from the folks behind the counter. Once we told them what we were doing it was all smiles and they couldn't move chairs and tables fast enough to make a place for all of us. Yum.

Great event, Rob! Count me in.
