That 24 months refers to the time lag after receiving a bonus. If you had the old card for more than 2 years, and didn't get any bonus for the converted card, you have already met the 24 month requirement.
What I have asked several places, and have not received a reply to, is: what sort of time frame Chase is requiring between canceling a card and reapplying?
Probably no answers because so far no one really knows...

Applied using the link in the wiki on 7/17/2014; 80K points just deposited today, even though the first statement hasn't even closed yet. Coincidentally I had sent a payment (via ACH push), which I intended to shake the points loose, but I don't think it has hit yet so they are probably unaware of it.

Customers may also be able to "churn" the same card by waiting for a certain period between cancellation and reapplication. Chase's policy is not public, and FTers have devoted much discussion and speculation to this topic, both in this master thread and in the various card-specific threads. There is rough consensus that a two-year wait between cancellation and reapplication is sufficient to allow earning the bonus a second time.
But it is out of date. Chase now has a published policy, at least on some cards, that to earn a second bonus one must apply at least 2 years after receiving the first bonus.
But that only applies to the time period between apps, not the time period after canceling. Last Feb I got a second SW cc, and the full bonus, having only waited 6 months after canceling the first SW card. But more than 2 years after getting my first bonus.
Still I'm not certain that's a valid data point any more, since Chase has now clarified part of their policy, as stated above. But as far as I know, they have only clarified the between bonus time period, not the after canceling time period. So maybe it doesn't matter any more. Or maybe it's YMMV?

Yes, I have seen this in that Wiki:

I got my bonus well over 24 months ago. The card is still open. Your thinking is that I can cancel it now, and reapply in a few weeks while the enhanced offer is still on, and get the bonus?

NOTE: The card the poster canceled was a VISA.
If yours already converted to an MC, you might need to give it some rest which no body could know how long unless some one tries it. Though I would guess that it is better to give it at least 30 days or more time lapse. The last thing you want to see is Chase REOPEN your canceled card which the bank could do if the previous card is only closed for 30 to 60 days.

I would give it a minimum of a week or two. Otherwise, one risks having an app rejected because one part of the Chase system isn't fully up to date & still shows the previous card as open instead of closed. Yes, one could try calling recon if that happens, but historically Chase has been tough on obvious churners (unlike Citi, whose CSRs are openly indifferent to identical open cards held by the same customer).

I knew this was coming! This is my first time applying for any IHG. Chase cards applied for (all instantly approved) within the past 12 months: Hyatt (Nov '13), United (Jan '14) and Ink Plus (Apr '14).

It probably means they have given you all the credit they can comfortably extend, and want to speak with you about redistributing the various amounts allocated to your existing lines in order to carve out some room for the new card you're requesting. Just call them.
Just rang them. He rep first verified my past addresses (have a couple of them) etc then approved me right away by moving credit from an existing line.
Now how do I get them to match the 80k miles? (I only got 60k)

They only gave me $2k CL (smallest have I ever gotten). CSR said I could get it increased without another pull by calling in to consolidate another Chase card (close and move the credit line over). Not a big deal for me as I don't plan on using this card for everyday spend. I got it mainly for IHG platinum status, more points for paid stays and the annual free night cert.
Bottom line: approved for 80k points after $1k spend. Thanks to all of you for this thread, and the other Chase threads!
