An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

Definitely going up. Back in the summer I was seeing £69 on some routes, now it is more likely to be double that. Latest I have is £149 lhr to fco. Er no thanks. I hope it does return to sensible levels at some point.

£99 LHR to MAD; the first time in a very long time I turned down a POUG as I have an exit row seat in ET booked.

I'm routinely turning them down now. Most my flights booked early enough to get decent seats, and my GC TP-chasing is done for the year. I actually go 200TP over during my "year", mainly as I want to have it for a couple more months. Next year I plan to simply enjoy the GC, assess if worth chasing again, and then get the soft-landing to Silver and see what happens from there. I used POUG's extensively this year to get the TPs needed, so I am a little sorry to see the new levels. Best one was a £189 WT-WT+ to HKG and then an OpUp at the gate. Netted an extra 55 TPs but a superb flight - almost tempting to book LH in WT+ every time.

By way of another example, £129 ET-CE LGW to Malaga. Given I could get G-MEDK again I'm declining!

That's more like it for short hops to CDG, AMS or BRU. I certainly didn't take up the £104 POUG (each way) offer for my LGW-AMS-LGW flights this week. And both ways there was plenty of availability in CE, probably only about 50% full.

I agree that they seem to be going up at the moment. €119 for AMS-LGW on a Thursday afternoon, HBO fare, booked 2 weeks in advance and has been offered at that same price throughout. No way am I going to be paying that for no-one sitting next to me for a 40 minute flight and an afternoon tea service. I'll also take the exit row in ET and manage without the TPs thanks very much.

Are these offers linked with the traveler and his/her frequent flyer number?

As in, if one declines these, or declines these frequently, do the offers stop coming?

(Am thinking that's not the case. I believe there was discussion on this a while back, but can't find it).

Some things like the cheapest LGW-JER-LGW are £56 in ET. Offers of upgrading to CE are £99 so around £254 return there.
£218 seems to be the cheapest you can pay for CE outright on this route so cheaper not paying for POUGs in this case.

Think this is the only route I've ever been offered a POUG on regardless of how empty of full a flight might be.

No to both questions, here is the link to yesteday's discussion:
