An “official POUG” is defined (for the purposes of this wiki) as the rate that appears in red on the MMB/BA app. It is NOT the rate offered at the airport (please see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ng-thread.html), or the rate offered when you click on the “Upgrade my class of travel with money” link from within MMB, or the “Upgrade to the next available cabin” blue/grey banner in the app.
  • All POUGs earn full TPs and Avios for the upgraded cabin, subject to the original booking being paid for with cash.
  • POUGs *ARE* offered on Hand-Baggage Only fares, if available
  • POUGs only become available after 48 hours of making your booking, until any time up to, and including OLCI. After being checked in you will not be offered a POUG.
  • POUGs do not seem to become available for travel agent bookings, until 2-3 days before departure (YMMV)
  • POUGs cannot be requested from Service Centres, except that occasionally BA.com will not proceed with a POUG online and display a message inviting you to call the Service Centre to complete the transaction.
  • After a POUG has been purchased, the ticket become non changeable and non refundable, apart from government taxes.

Please add to this list as required, and include the month/year when the POUG is offered to you.

My Dublin POUG dropped from £99 to £95 yesterday for an April booking.
If they are testing pricing points, £4 isn't going to do it BA.

How strange, but as a certain retail emporium used to say, every little helps. Mind you, look what happened to them.

Just today the POUG for LHR-OTP-LHR in April has changed to £185 per person and LHR-VCE-LHR to £135. That's only for one of the flights mind you. I now suspect there is a random number generator involved.

Just for fun, I thought I'd generate a price for the LHR-OTP-LHR upgrade (no special has appeared for a while now)... £1400 per person (return mind you). Now it's around Christmas, so OK the flight will be full. But, that still shocked me a bit.

Either that or it's the BA "gong" game and we have to hit buy as soon as we see a number we like before the check in cut-off gong.

I missed out on a POUG recently. It was offered for seven days and when I decided to go for it had gone. (WAW - LHR)

At check-in, my friend was offered an upgrade via the app, I wasn't (presumably
Because he was on a R/T ticket and I was on a O/W one).
I enquired at the airport and was able to purchase an upgrade for PLN500 (£95).

A lot of money, but I appreciated
- fast track security
- lounge access (hello Gin & Tonics!)
- middle seat free
- choice of three main courses (the one I picked was possibly the best meal I have had in the air (my little experience being Icelandair Business, BA Club Europe and VS Upper Class)
- four bottles of champers.

Hoping that BA are kind to me for my PMI-LCY flight on Sunday (yep, missed the POUG on app for this flight too)

Might that be fuel surcharges or € exchange rate fluctuations?)

£99 POUG each way offered for same day return to Jersey in January on HBO fare. Appeared 48 hours after booking. This does represent a substantial saving on the CE fare of £430 rtn when added to the HBO fare of £56 rtn.

Looks this way, I had a "usual" offer of £69 to upgrade a LHR-DUB flight via email, however today looking at the booking this had gone up to £80

If a TP run, better to use nested bookings at £218 return in CE (so £436 for 160TP or £2.74/TP) than the £5.38/TP on the £430 fare or £3.18/TP on the £56 + 2x£99 fare.

i.e.

Ticket 1: Sat 3rd Jan LGW-JER, Sat 28th March JER-LGW
Ticket 2: Sat 3rd Jan JER-LGW, Sat 28th March LGW-JER

Are there limits to the number of POUGs offered annually?

I had them offered both ways on a Hanover flight in March, Took the outbound, then a day later the rtn was whipped away.

Unlikely I feel, going purely from my experience. Plus the existence of sophistication on BA.com is not often the subject of comment here.

I had a POUG appear on a LHR-SOF for £89. Then it disappeared for a few weeks. Then it reappeared about two weeks out, and was then offered again at OLCI.

I didn't take it.

The point is, I think POUGs run on a hidden algorithm tied to ticket sales in various classes - so they can appear, disappear, and reappear again, etc.

I've got a return BA code IBERIA operated flight from LHR (via MAD) to LEI on Wednesday.

I9 is showing on both the legs between LHR and MAD, and I2 between MAD and LEI (both ways).

Travel dates: out 17/12, rtn 22/12.

POUG isn't offered on the BA website (I have regularly checked), so do I take it that it is NEVER offered on IBERIA operated flights??

Good advice but there are the sad, boring ones amongst us (me included) who do a HBO, same day return to Jersey for work, not a TP run
Perhaps one day...
