AA (legacy US Airways) Airbus A321-200 "321"

The older legacy US Airways Airbus A321-200 is shown as "321" in AA schedules. (Newer legacy AA A321s are listed as "32B" as they have "Sharklet" wingtip devices installed, and include two class A321S and A321H ETOPS and three class A321T transcontinental versions.)

NOTE: in accordance with AA “Project Oasis” all A321-200s will be retrofitted between 2019 and 2021. Business / First cabins will use the seats found today in the AA A319, with reduced seat pitch and recline. MCE and MC will have the Rockwell Collins slimline Meridian seats with reduced pitch and recline. Lavatories will be ultra-slim Rockwell Collins Spacewall lavs. See Oasis: New seats & less pitch, WiFi IFE & power all 737 and A321 2019-21 for further information.

As conversion begins we will start a new thread, and you should be able to see which configuration a particular aircraft has by referencing the (unofficial) American Airlines Fleet Site here.

The legacy US Airways A321s are currently unmodified, though a few have been reupholstered, have new carpeting and bulkhead liners. These have less seat pitch and recline in the First cabin, no Main Cabin Extra seats other than the few with greater seat pitch (e.g. bulkhead / 5, Exit rows 9, 10, 22, and 23) and have neither seatback IFE nor at seat power provisions. They do have GoGo WiFi and free streaming audio and video entertainment for your WiFi capable devices..

Note 10 ABC (fixed armrests with deploying trays) or F, 23 A and F seem to be preferred by some members.

Please see AA to install same new seats in 737-800s and A321s but add more of them for information on the plan to install new B/E Aerospace Meridian slimline seats in a denser pattern and 30" seat pitch in Main Cabin in 2019. (We will dedicate a thread to the CIP / modified A321 when that aircraft becomes current with the AA fleet.)

The A320-321 refurbishment thread may be read here.

NOW though - there's no booze (free or otherwise) at all in the main cabin because of COVID-19 so who knows why they're still charging.
Interesting. I had no idea that 23AF were removed from MCE.

They're Preferred Seats now. Just so you know.

The legroom is endless on 10A. I could be a 7 footer and still be comfortable

Since there's no longer free alcohol for MCE it doesn't make a difference. Those seats as well as 10F have never been MCE although sometimes FA would serve you a free drink anyway back in the day.

I’m trying to determine which seat map applies to flight #1417 ORD > CUN and having trouble after reviewing this and other threads about the AA A321, Seat Guru, etc. The plane appears to end at row 36 in the main cabin and the exit row is in row 11. Trying to figure out if 12F would be a seat with great legroom due to no seat in 11F like this describes: https://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Am...us_A321_V2.php

Or is that layout incorrect or out of date? And if so, what would be the best main cabin seat on this plane for legroom? Thanks so much.

your place is legacy AA a321. 12F is a good seat that has no seat on front of it

The seat map selection page on AA.com for the flight shows row 11 as the exit row and seat 10F, not 11F as missing. Is that map on AA.com incorrect?

Ug, so I had a flight scheduled through ORD in June that got re-routed through CLT, which I figured would happen when I booked it since the schedule hadn't been finalized. So now I am on my old friend (not) the LUS A321 for a transcon to SEA in Y. Since I had free MCE seats selected on my old flight and we are flying with my daughter the system automatically put us in 5ABC, not eligible for exit rows with the little one. Should I stay with 5 or go ahead and move back to 6 or 7 so we don't have to play the overhead only storage game? I am 6'2" so if the legroom is actually beneficial I'll deal with stuffing everything overhead at takeoff and landing. If I am going to be stuck with my knees bent the whole flight AND no bags at our seats I'll definitely forfeit the "privilege" of MCE for the trip.

I would think about moving back to row 8 to have no one behind but Seatguru says they have zero recline (although I am always dubious of Seatguru accuracy).

Hopefully we will get Oasis'd at least!
