I saw the Jazz gate announcement instructions, dated December 15.
Not only does it say to do 1 and 2 separately, but it even tells the gate agents who has zone 1.
This guide was in front of the agent who was starting boarding by calling 1 and 2 together.

And yet I'm batting 0.000 with separate zone 1 and 2 boarding calls for Jazz flights

Proof that this great idea/concept is an implementation failure and GAs need to be tarred and feathered.

Boarding yesterday evening for 856 was fine as expected in calling zone 1 and zone 1 first (you know, in a Portlandia kinda way ).

Just "general boarding"
"You don't do zoned boarding here?"
"Not for small aircraft."

AC 869 (LHR) was a bunch of fun-ness this morning. "would Zone 1 and 2 now come forward for passport check" ... I was the 2nd person in zone 1 and hadn't even made it to the gate agent when they then called zones 3, 4, and 5.
WHY BOTHER !!
Dear AC lurkers ... I appreciate that the inbound flight was late due to wildcats in YYZ, I appreciate that instead of starting boarding at 7:45, we started at 7:55, I appreciate that it is Saturday and maybe you have fewer Z1s on a 77W than you would have during the week. I appreciate that the GAs are willing to sacrifice ANYTHING to avoid delaying departure because they are terrified of being reprimanded for late departures.
But seriously. Why bother with zones. Just go to the model that was my experience with Air France this week ("EVERYONE BOARD NOW!" pretty much sums it up). ... at least I understood that my place in line was my place in line.
